Five people, including a 14-month-old baby, died in a fatal car accident on Tuesday at Alapako village on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, according to reports
The Ogere Unit Commander of the FRSC, Mr Abdulrahman Sadeeq, who confirmed the incident, said four other persons were seriously injured in the crash which occurred at about 7:30 am.
Sadeeq on phone said that the victims were travelling in a white Mazda bus marked Bayelsa XC 239 YEN heading to Lagos from Kano.
The bus, according to him, skidded off its lane and rammed into a ditch at the village.
While attributing the crash to over-speeding and dangerous driving, Sadeeq said a 12-month-old baby boy and three other male adults were injured.
The FRSC officials said the victims were conveyed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu.
He also said the FRSC would work tirelessly to ensure that the accident did not cause a gridlock on the highway. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

The FRSC and police are not really doing their Job the way it suppose to be.
ReplyDeleteI was an eye witness of the incident. When it happens, no body want to picked the victim that has not died and that are critically injured to the hospital due to police report saga. We tried stopping a patrol police HILUX vehicle passing by at the other express road, but they did not stop. It was one of the Towing vehicle that convayed some victim to an unknown hospital, while we were trying to removed some other two men from the ditch where they were fling-ed when the accident occur.
The FRSC and police suppose to be moving around along the express way at all time.
The funniest thing was that, there ware team of police men about 2KM away from the incident, and they did not bother to come to the seen of the incident.
The national assembly has to pass a law to stop a scenario whereby hospital will not like to treat an accident victim until they see a police report or a police accompany them. Some of the victim that died yesterday, would not have died had it been that passer by can help take them to the nearest hospital. That clause must be removed.
Also, FRSC AMBULANCE suppose to be accompanied with some group of medical personnel and clinical first aid equipment to give first aid to accident victims at glance.
Similarly, why should FRSC staff always transport accident victims to Shagamu Town, while there were nearby Hospital. Many accident victim dies as a result of long transportation.
The one that happens yesterday was closer to Ibadan than Shagamu. Why Shagamu hospital always. Except God protect those victims yestarday, Some of the victim would died before getting to Sagamu Hospital.
It is only in Nigeria that human life is not valued. Why couldn't anybody be able to help an accident victims to a nearby hospital except a police report is made or an FRSC official is present ?. Police can investigate any accident case while the victims are still in the Hospital whether it was a real accident or an armed robbery attack or case.
Government has to do more to help lees privilege people like what happens yesterday.
Nigerian Government should wake up.
It was a Toyota VVT-I commuter bus and not Mazda bus as reported above. There were team of Camera man that covered the incident.
Wale thank you for your post...from all indications have some first hand information.. best wishes and may you never be the victim of a road mishap-....Amen
ReplyDeleteOur leaders need to do more so that cases like this should have direct or express treatment, my prayer is that the almighty God the lord the creator of heaven and earth will always saves us and protect us cause we have leader enacting laws that is not helping us in any way rather killing everybody, why will there be a law preventing the treatment of accident, victims unless there is police or frsc official are this same people not turning blind eyes to people dyinig, ha what is the house of assemble and senate going to do nothing all they do is to sit there at the house and debate cases that will do no man good, then share the money.
ReplyDeleteI just dont know what to say about this country. Nigeria leaders are highly disgusting. My heart bleeds wen I hear of cases like these, no paramedics in most states, all state governors must do something about this. Not even a state governor like delta who should know better(being a doctor) have such facilities. They are all disgusting ignoring their citizens to die without even blinking an eye. Wen u go to other countries u would treated far better than in your own country. In fact I hate Nigeria with all my strength
