Dutch targetman and Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie has won the PFA Footballer Of The Year award, as voted by his fellow professionals.
He collected the gong at a dinner and award ceremony organised for the players, and with 34 goals already this season, the accolade is well deserved.
Van Persie beat off strong competition from Manchester City trio David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Joe Hart as well as Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and Spurs midfielder Scott Parker to take the award.
The Gunners' skipper has drawn praise for his performances this year with PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor saying: "He has been amazing, when you think of Dennis Bergkamp, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Marco van Basten he is in that mould of absolutely top-class strikers that Holland manages to produce."
“Well done to our skipper been fantastic this year! Fully deserved….#Gooner,” said his team-mate Jack Wilshere on Twitter after the news leaked.
Kyle Walker took home the Young Player Of The Year award.
