20-year-old Okada rider hangs self

A 20- year- old commercial motorcyclist popularly known as Okada, Onuigbo Nwode, hanged himself yesterday in Awka for losing his motorcycle to armed bandits.

Sources said the deceased relocated to Akwa to engage in Okada business about three years ago from Ezza in Ebonyi State.

The motorcycle, it was learnt, was stolen in Awka town along Zik Avenue around 1am yesterday.

He reportedly hanged himself around 2.30am.

The State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the incident.
He refused to speak further on the incident.
It was gathered that the victim’s body had been removed from Ichida road in Umudioka where the incident happened by the police and deposited in mortuary.

A source who claimed to be a relation to the deceased said Nwode came to their house weeping and looking dejected after finding out his motorcycle had been stolen.

The 22-year-old said, "We were three from Ebonyi in that room and when we saw how he was feeling, we started consoling him and at a time all of us fell asleep, we never knew he had other plans.

"When I eventually woke up to go and ease myself, I found out that Nwode was not around and I went outside with the other brothers to urinate. That was when I saw something dangling which I drew their attention to.

"When we flashed a touch- light towards it, we found it was Nwode’s body. That was how we raised alarm and neigbours started trooping out.’

  1. Too bad! Nothing can be said to him now because he is already gone. I hope the family and other people like him will learn how to hold on and over-come trials and temptation. Wheather we like it or not trials and temptation will surely come. Jesus had already warn us before hand that trials and temptation will surely come but if we lean on him, he will not allow it to overshadow us.So to overcome, you must pass a test. A problem is not usually the problem but our attitude towards a problem is the problem. Readers, learn to hold on; in the end u shall rejoice.

  4. Devil has power but has no salvation, But the power of God superceds. What an evil manifestation in a boy of 20. Its nt the bike He lost that killed him bt the devil. He(devil) made him feel all hope was lost even @ that age. It takes the intervention of God for smone to be alive, if not, all of us for don die like chicken. We need to draw closer to God cs its only God that can help us. Afterall there have been cases of pple who m children were killed and wife raped after they have taken valuables from him bt he never killed himself, rather he tried to be himself and carried on not to talk of bike....may his soul RIP.

  7. We Nigerians have become fools. Instead of addressing the issues that led to the predicament he found himself in to cause the suicide, we resort to Jesus this and Jesus that. That is so very convienient for the our corrupt elites that have put is in absolute poverty and dispair. They say religion (different for being spiritual) is the alcohol of the people. What fools we have become. Even the west that brought christianity do not loose their senses like this. Shame!

  8. I have been there believe me, and i know how it feels and the type of words that thief the devil always wisper to me but each time i always rebuke him and remind him of what Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour did for me on the cross,It's good to know Jesus and believe in what God is able to do that way we can never give in to devil's so called easy way out. Afterall the Bible says that in the world we will be faced with many tribulations and persecutions but God has already made provisions in His Word the Bible for all situations that the enemy may throw on us and God has promise that we will awlays overcome and if i where able to overcome through Christ in me who stregthens me, then every other person out there can as well. Only trust and believe and keep holding on to His word He will always come true for you no matter how long it takes keep holding on, am a living withness to his great and mighty salvation in a time when it looks like all hope was gone God did what no man can do, he showed me how wonderful and loving he is. Believe me God is ever faithful and loving and i wish like shouting His love and kindness to the whole world. So my brothers and sisters out there sucide is not the best option to any hard situations as its a straight way to hell. just keep believing in the savation of our Lord Jesus Christ and believing in what God is able to do for you no matter how terrible that situation may look like at the time there is always victory at the end of the tunnel for God is able to do all things and deliever those that put their trust in him from every situation and tempest.
