Many people dressed themselves in the national colours of red, gold and green for the festivities…
.. some at the event even painted themselves like the Ghanaian flag.
Even those who had to work, like gas station attendant Eugene Attafuah, wore the country’s flag as a sign of solidarity with those celebrating.
The crowds roared when former President John Kufuor lit the independence flame.

The Ghanaian government says it is spending about $20m (£10.4m) on the jubilee celebrations. Several million dollars have been spent on cars to transport visiting dignitaries.
The partying began after midnight when some revellers gave displays of traditional Ghanaian dancing.
And throughout the night tributes were paid to Kwame Nkrumah, who led the country to independence on may 6th 1957 and is immortalised in a statue in the centre of Accra.
A fireworks display shortly after midnight lit up the sky above the capital. Ghana’s independence in 1957 encouraged other countries to break with colonial rule. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

at least, they have something to celebrate
ReplyDeleteWell Thanks to BH who truncated our last anniversary.Frankly speaking, What are we really celebrating....No lights, No Water, No Jobs, Industries are daily shutting down, but our Legislature are smilling to the bank at every sitting. Kudos to Ghana and happy celebrations
ReplyDeleteAlthough, in terms of governance complexity, Ghana is no where near Nigeria but the fact remains that their leaders are more committed to the development of their country rather than individual interest. The simple lesson is that we should all emulate the patriotism of the past leaders like Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Tafawa Balewa, Late Nnamdi Azikwe, Mallam Aminu Kano, Chief Michael Okpara etc. Present day's leaders and masses are corrupt and we can only be delivered by God.
ReplyDeletehappy celebration. I pray our so called learders learn a good lesson from this
ReplyDeletethere independent is wot celebrating, is not like that of Nigeria.our leaders here are not leading for the interest of the of the pple in mind but they are leadind for their own selfish interest so to say.
