'My jail sentence is pathetic, I deserve MUCH longer' - UK Drug addict and thief

Fury: Alex Livingstone, 40, told magistrates at Kettering Magistrates' Court (pictured) that they should have locked him up for longer

A drug addict thief jailed for eight weeks in the UK told magistrates his sentence was 'pathetic' - and he should have been locked up for much longer.
Alex Livingstone, 40, handed himself in to police after stealing food from a store and breaking into a car in Corby, Northamptonshire.

But when magistrates gave him just two months in prison after he admitted two charges of theft, he launched an angry courtroom tirade.

Livingstone's solicitor told Kettering Magistrates' Court that his client had broken the law to fund his £100-a-day drug addiction.

After his sentence was passed, the thief got up and told chairman of the magistrates Raymond Edis: 'It’s pathetic. You should have given me a lot longer than that.

'Where is the sense in that sentence, I’ll be as much as a danger to the general public in eight weeks as I am now.

'You need to get a grip and do your job properly.'

Mr Edis responded by telling court officers to escort Livingstone out of the courtroom.

The defendant said he had pleaded guilty to save police time instead of being the subject of a trial.

The court heard that on Saturday January 14 Livingstone stole chicken fillets from an Iceland store.

Then, on Sunday February 19 he stole a quantity of items from a Ford Cougar car.

Ammo Bains, representing Livingstone, said: 'He has asked the court to sentence him to do a custodial sentence. If he doesn’t get sentenced he will commit again.

'He has expressed that he is extremely sorry for what he has done and the reason he has committed these offences was to help to finance his very expensive drug addiction of £100 a day.

'Credit must be given for his entering of a guilty plea, and he went into Corby police station on Monday and reported the offences.

'He said he has pleaded guilty in order to save police time instead of a trial.'

The court heard that the defendant had numerous previous convictions dating back to 1986, for mainly burglary and theft matters.

Passing sentence, Mr Edis said: 'We think you are at risk of harm to the general public.

'We give you credit for entering guilty pleas early, but we are going to sentence you to eight weeks for the two offences.'

Livingstone was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the owner of the vehicle which was stolen from.

  3. Oh come on you guys don't tell me you don't know why this guy is lamenting for a longer prison time. He wouldn't be doing the same here in Naija.

Naijaman, after 8 weeks he will do greater things to make sure that he stays longer in the UK jail. The only rehabilitation he will get is here in our glorious cells.
