Doctors and patients took to their heels because of an electric fault
There was a stampede last night as doctors, nurses and patients at the Maitama District Hospital, Abuja, rushed out from offices and wards due to what was perceived as bomb explosion.
The drama started at about 10:30pm when, according to one of the doctors, a fire started at the Accident and Emergency Unit as a result of electrical spark.
No sooner had this happened than everyone took to their heels.
Almost all the patients in the hospital including those who were operated upon that day fled for their lives.
The fire was eventually put out however, and patients who had run for safety were helped to their beds.
