Boko Haram scare forces Lagos state government to demolish five mosques

The spate of bomb attacks and widespread terror by the Boko Haram Islamist sect has driven the government of Lagos State to demolish five mosques in Nigeria’s commercial hub and largest city.
Sources said the demolition of the mosques followed intelligence reports from the anti-terror Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on the vulnerability of the state government’s secretariat to an attack by Boko Haram extremists, who presumably were liable to use the nearby religious sanctuaries as a cover.

The mosques, located within the Alausa area, were pulled down following an order by the Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola, who also banned all religious activities within the state secretariat.
One of the demolished mosques was located about 120 metres from the office of the Deputy Governor, while another stood behind the Ministry of Justice. The demolitions were carried out at night under heavy police presence to forestall possible violent Muslim reactions.
Weeks ago, the Boko Haram sect had issued a threat to bomb major cities in the southern part of Nigeria including Lagos, a city of close to 20 million people.

Since the beginning of the year, rumours have been rife of an imminent attack on the country’s longest bridge, the 12- kilometre Third Mainland Bridge connecting Lagos Island and the mainland.
On March 16, thousands of people scampered for safety as an explosive device was discovered in a building in Ikeja area of Lagos. The bomb was planted in Awolowo House, a glass structure on Obafemi Awolowo Road, one of the busiest parts of Ikeja Central Business District. Also rumours of a bomb planted in Motorways building, close to Alausa secreteriat area have deepened the fear of Boko Haram attacks into Lagos

As far as i'm concerned you are a God saint.
Unfortunately, some will read strange an unimaginable meaning to the whole nobble idea behind your action.
And for the christians, especially the fake churches in and around Lagos state should be prepared for the unexpected for similar action is imminent.
God give Babatunde Fashola the wisdom to continue the good work he is doing.
His good shall/will be in the good book of God and in the history of Lagos state and indeed Nigeria.
I emplore every patrotic Nigeians to emulate him. It takes a wise man, not with setiment to do what he has demonstrated. Only God knows the number of death he has avertsd. He is a proactive leader not minding whose ox is god.
May God give Fashola all it takes to lead well
Go on with the good work you are doing, the good people of Lagosians are behind you.

  8. Babatunde Raji Fashola should watch it. The repercussion of his action is imminent. The Holiest place on the surface of the earth is the Mosque according to the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith of the prophet. The destruction of the house of God under the pretext of intelligent report that can not be substantiated with proof of such an activities therein, is a way of drawing a battle line with God. The governor as to re-build the the Mosques in question for him to avert the wrath of God.

And to the commentators above and even to the anti-terror Rapid Response Squad (RRS) can any one proof that the so called Boko Haram are truly Muslim, because Islam does not give room for unjustifiable destruction of life and properties. The Boko Haram issue is politically motivated, and in this issue Islam is unfortunately a child of circumstance.

I say all these without sentiment and with all sense of responsibility. God bless Nigeria.

  10. of course mr shitu your justifications are quite true these blackphomous speclutions are not reliable enough to take critical measure of demolishing mosques, so now what do expect from the ppl whose their wealth and intelegence was spent in the course of building those mosques? or do think the reasons you quote for your action will save you before Allah in the day of judgement?

  11. Authentic or otherwise the security reports we've been getting on BH had not failed. Should his excellency wait until he is been hit by the bomb? Don't forget the seat of government of Lagos our countries economic capital is the target. As a christian I respect all places of worship irrespective of the faith but not when is at variance with the security and sanctity of life. Weldone Gov Fashola go ahead and demolish any church, mosque, temple, sanctuaries etc that is a threat to the life of the good people of Lagos.

  12. ....and if lets the so called ''Boko Haram'' wants to operate, can they use other places as their sit of operation rather than the mosque?. Can we then say the governor should start destroying surrounding buildings, etc.

I still maintain my stance that, the whole issue is politically motived. It is not a religious issue.
