Boko Haram insurgency politically-motivated – Islamic teachers

The Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies has described the violence perpetrated by Boko Haram in parts of the North as being politically- motivated.

In a communique at the end of its 30th annual national conference at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, NATAIS said the activities of the sect were “political and not religious.”

Signed by the Chairman, Communiqué Committee, Dr Lanre Yusuf, and the Secretary of the committee, Dr Lateef Oladimeji, the association called on the Federal Government to provide employment opportunities for youths in order to stem poverty and violence across the country.

The body said, “The activities of Boko Haram leading to the loss of lives and property of many innocent Nigerians seemed to be more political than religious.
“Government at all levels should address more sincerely the issue of youth unemployment in Nigeria as an antidote against youth restiveness and other criminal activities.

“The crime rate and state of insecurity in Nigeria are as a result of spiritual poverty and joblessness of the youth, the effect of which there is palpable fear for security of lives and property all over the country.

“In view of the fact that Nigeria like other African nations has continued to experience socio-political challenges arising from the importation of alien culture and tradition, government should put in place machinery for the formulation of national code of ethics that would re-engineer national re-orientation.

“The code which should be unique to Nigeria should be inspired by Islamic ethics, Christian values and worthy indigenous African norms.”

  2. These guys should stop trying to whitewash the religiously-inspired Boko Haram. They want Nigeria to adopt the Shariah. There's nothing political about that! They destroy churches. There's nothing political about that! They chase away Southerners - especially the Igbos. There's nothing political about that. They set off bombs and kill countless innocent people. That's not political. They attack other moslems who do not follow their way. That's not also political! Let these teachers explain to their people that killing innocent people is not Islam. Let them stop this chorusing of blames to the government as the sole cause of the bloody criminals!
