Two female students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo, on Friday lost their lives when a well in their hostel caved in.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the incident occurred at about 7:30 am at Kudirat Hostel of the university, when seven students who were fetching water at the well suddenly found themselves inside as it caved in.
The victims were immediately rescued and rushed to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, where two of the students were certified dead.
One of the survivors, Miss Esther Akhibi, a 200 level student of Political Science, said they had to fetch water from the well because the water taps in the hostels had stopped running for a long time.
She said non of them was able to jump off when the well collapsed, adding that they were rescued by the university’s Red Cross team and some students.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. George Akpede described the incident as tragic and said the hospital was making all necessary efforts to manage the victims.
Authorities of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, however ordered the closure of the school, following a students’ protest sparked by the death of two of their colleagues and the injury sustained by five others.

Only last week we read about somebody from that same state crying foul that he was deposesed of his 8million naira, i'm sure it is the constituency money.
Let the State government wake up to its responsibilities, of providing basic amenities for the unversity. It quite sadden, that AAU upto this moment still lack portable water in the school. This has been a problem from time immemorial. Please, Governor Adams, provide portable water for AAU! Omon is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from AAU.

ReplyDeleteNIGERIA WE HAIL THY.
ReplyDeleteWhen will we start to enjoy a good life in Nigeria, fear enough not everybody are paying but with the money Nigeria is getting from Crude all where is it going. The stolen money they got from pple like Abacha, Tafa Balagun, etc what did they do wt them. so all that money was taken back 4 another set of pple to steal them again.
We have aboundant mineral resouces like Sun, rainfall etc and we are still relying on crude methods of providind electricity when we can introduce SOLAR Energy at a reduce and cost effect means, we can dam our rivers to produce drinking water instead of killing able bodied Nigerians through the of finding ways to survive.
What are the pple we voted for doing? Fighting for their own mouth and pocket.
IT'S REALLY SAD FOR 9JA, remember the saying that ' A FOOL AT 40 IS A FOOL FOR............... and we more than 40yrs old now.
My question is this; must we wait for something bad to happen before we do the very necessary things we should do? Why didn't the school authorities fix the water issue in the school before now? Now, we have lost two precious lives. We Nigerians or do I say the people in power do not value the lives of other Nigerians. This wickedness has to stop now!!!!!!!! FRANK.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad news, may their soul rest in perfect peace.
