4 dead in Bayelsa cult clash

Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, said it will set up a task force to check the security challenges in the state.

The announcement came a day after suspected rival cult gang engaged in a gun battle which left four persons dead, among them a commercial sex worker, while several others sustained gunshot wounds.

The government said: “Report over the unfortunate death of a young lady hit by stray bullets due to the clash of two rival cult gangs yesterday (Sunday) in Yenagoa has just been brought to our notice.”

Senior Special Assistant Media and Public Affairs to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, in a statement, said “Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the other three persons who sustained serious injuries as a result of the cross-fire gave up the ghost this (Monday) morning while receiving treatment at the hospital.

“Government is set to unveil its Task Force on Security. This is in keeping with the earlier promise made by the Dickson administration that it will ensure a zero- tolerance to all forms of crime and criminality. Our Task Force on Security will comprehensively enforce this policy to the letter,” he added.

It will be recalled that the police authorities confirmed two persons dead and six arrested over the violent skirmishes involving rival cult groups alleged locked in supremacy battle.
