The organizers of the renowned African Movie Academy ( AMAA) have announced that for the first time, the eight edition of the awards will be holding in Lagos and that the event’s main host will be Haitian born international actor and model, Jimmy Jean-Louis.
The 44 year old ace actor recently received an achievement award at the 20th edition of PAN African film festival and is best known for his role as The Haitian on the NBC television series, Heroes. He has also featured in Hollywood blockbusters like Tears of the Sun, Diary of a Tired Black Man and Phat Girlz.
The awards which have been aptly dubbed the ‘African Oscars’ had since its commencement, been held in Bayelsa state but according to the Business development manager of the awards Naomi Lucas, Lagos will now play host to the eight edition due to reasons bordering on challenges in areas like security, accommodation and airport logistics which were insufficient in Bayelsa.
