A Police Inspector and two Corporals attached to Igando police division, have been arrested over the killing of two men on LASU/Igando Road, Lagos.
The deceased, were ridding on a motorcycle at about 7.15 am, when they were flagged down by policemen on a stop and search on Wednesday. Eye witnesses, said they did not stop, following which, head of the team, one Inspector Niyi Oladapo fired at them, killing passenger and the rider on the spot.
Report said the deceased were labelled robbers by the policemen, following their refusal to stop when ordered to.
But they were discovered to be employees of Multiple Covenant Investment Limited, whose identities were given as Endurance Omonyahou and Sikiru Amusa, yesterday.
Chief Executive of the company, Mr Wale Fadikun, explained that the deceased were his drivers, who pick him at home every morning.
"One of them was my main driver while the other was my assistant driver. Everyday, they came on the motorbike and at the close of work; they would ride home on it. One was my driver and the other was my assistant driver. They both came to work on the motorbike and go home with it," he added.
Demanding for justice, Fadikun said that only one of his employees died on the spot while the second one Endurance, was dragged to the Igando station on allegation that he was a robber, where he bled to death.
He added that the policemen later denied killing his employees, saying that they were shot by fleeing robbers.
Spokesman for the command, Mr Jaiyeoba Joseph, when contacted said the policemen had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, for further investigation

Extra judicial killing by the Nigerian Police must be checked.
ReplyDeleteThe power of authority is not in armunition, it is in building Police dignity which was lost to corruption. I think the situation is redeemable if the mindset of the nigeria Police will be re-ordered.
You don't go about seeing Police harashing innocent citizen in the name of duty at check points or stop and search in other countries. Their action suggest an image of crime, which i believe Nigeria is not. The fear of Police harashment has subdued the ego of many Nigerian.
The Inpsector General of Police should please take note, and should not be seen as his predecessor who rant on assumption of office, only to sleep few months after
Mr Wale Fadikun good on you. You must pursue this to the end. My condolences to the innocent deceased's families.

ReplyDeleteInteresting.
Any proof that this actually works? Website -link? What is the catch if any?
I don't know why Nigeria police like killing innocent soul now, every blessed day police kill, when will this end? he actually knows they where not robbers, he killed them intentionally because normally if police see's robbers they remove their uniform and hide. pls he most be punish for this for others to learn lesson.
ReplyDeleteWe need to be advised to always stop to avoid these killings by the Police. I pity those who refused to always stop when flag down by the police. It is sad that we don't obey simple instruction in this country. In Benin Republic mere whistling by the police stops any driver (either Okada or car).
