FG vows to punish errant subsidy cabal

The Federal Government on Thursday stated that any individual indicted by the probe panels investigating the fuel subsidy scam would face prosecution according to the laws of the country.

The government also called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities to realise the benefits of the nation's transformation agenda.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim, stated this at the inaugural lecture for the executive intelligence management course 5, 2012 with the theme, 'National security and transformation agenda,' held at the Institute of Security Studies, Usuma Dam-Abuja.

Anyim said, "We all agreed, particularly the so-called civil society that the subsidy process has been corrupted. Everybody agreed that it had been hijacked by a few people who fraudulently manipulate the system.

"However, there are various investigations in that regard. The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has set up two panels and they are looking into it. The House of Representatives has set up another panel conducting public hearings on it.

"You can be sure that at the end of it, whoever is culpable will be dealt with according to the law. Do you (security agencies) think the law can't deal with them? Then, it is your fault because you are the law enforcement agents."

The SGF also explained that the President came up with the transformation agenda to right past wrongs and enhance development.

He said, "The need for a qualitative and holistic development of the Nigerian state has therefore necessitated a strategy that would address the myriad of problems that could not find solution in the sectoral programmes.
