Ekiti Police arrest Pastor over stolen vehicles

False Prophets
Police in Ekiti State have recovered three stolen vehicles from a robbery syndicate allegedly headed by a pastor of a church in Ado-Ekiti.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Operations, Mr. Ududo Adat, said the pastor was arrested following a tip-off and confession from a mechanic who was contracted to repair the vehicles .

The cars recovered from the men are a Mazda Pick-Up with number plate Ekiti XD 493 ADK; Honda Accord Car with number plate Abuja FG 942 ABJ and a Mazda Panel Van with number plate Ekiti AG 68 YEE.

Briefing newsmen at the command’s headquarters yesterday, Adat said the pastor was a car dealer who specialised in the sales of stolen vehicles.

He said the cars were recovered following information from some people who were aware of the activities of the suspect.

The police chief did not give the identities of the head of the car snatching syndicate, saying that investigations were ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Olayinka Balogun, earlier blamed the banks operating in the state for the rampant robbery scares which, he said, had disrupted financial transactions in the recent past.

Balogun, told newsmen that the incessant robbery scares that had caused panic in the state could be attributed to the refusal of the banks to subscribe to the use of Security Alert System being operated by the police command.

He said that banks would be the target of any robbery gang and that he expected the banks to have subscribed to the alert system.

The police boss also solicited for two Armored Personnel Carriers, APCs, from all the banks to curtail the activities of robbers.

He said the state government donated two out of the three APCs in the command, adding that “if the Banks can combine together and donate two, then it will make the fight against robbers easier”.
