CBN donates N25m to Madalla blast victims

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday donated N25m to victims of the December 25, 2011 bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State.

The bombing, which was carried out by Boko Haram sect, left about 44 people dead and 73 others injured
The donation was coming after the criticism that greeted the apex bank’s N100m gesture extended to bomb blasts victims in Kano two weeks ago.

Civil society groups had slammed the CBN governor, wondering why he did not extend similar gesture to bomb blast victims in Borno, Yobe, Plateau and Adamawa states.
But the CBN governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, who led a delegation of the bank to make the Madalla donation, noted that the gesture was in fulfillment of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

He said the initiative, which was approved since 2006, had enabled the bank to support people in times of need.
He recalled how the apex bank vacated one of its branches to provide accommodation to the victims of the bombings that rocked the United Nations building in Abuja in 2011.

Accompanied by four of his Deputy Governors, Sanusi lamented the loss of lives and property caused by the activities of the Boko Haram.

While saying that the bank would continue to provide support to the victims, he told the Parish Priest, Rev Father Isaac Achi, and other members of the church that “an attack on a church or a mosque on a day of worship is an attack on the entire faith”.

He added, “What happened on December 25 was tragic because it has a bad implication for the country.
“Attacking a church on a Sunday or a Mosque on a Friday during the period of worship is an attack on an entire faith.
“And it the kind of things that only those who do not wish us peace and unity will do. So we sympathize and commiserate with you.”

I just love this man! How many christians can I remember ever made such a comment?!

The person that commented above, do u know how many people lost their lives in the bomb blast in Kano? The mayhem in Kano did not affect only muslims there but both Christians and Muslims, over 200! You cannot honestly compare the amount to be given and expect them to be the same amount.... Ur mind is ringing cos Kano is a muslim state and the governor is from Kano... Thatz not fair at all... Just learn how to be realistic

  4. Who among the above commentators is more religious than who?pls and pls Mallam Sanusi was absolutely wrong anybody is supporting his actions should be regarded as an enemy of Democrcy, his(Sanusi)mind is equally telling him thesame,if not why did he have to belatedly donate 25mil that cnt be equated with 100mil he donated to hi(Sanusi)parents. This is what everybody should stand up and condemn,is bad before God he(Sanusi)serve. What has he done to Maiduguri,Yobe,Adamawa victims were my sister ran for her dear life living her properties behind Sanusi Lamido Sanusi u didnt do well,i beleive god in His infinite mercy will touch your mind to have a rethink
