Sokoto – A Dean with the Faculty of Arts and Islamic studies of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof. Aliyu Muhammad Bunza has said that Islam, which is a religion of peace, brotherhood, tranquility and justice, does not agree with or promote terrorism.
He stated this in a paper titled, "Islam and the Current Challenges" delivered at a workshop organised by NACOMYO in conjunction with other Islamic organisations in Sokoto, Monday.
According to Bunza, Boko Haram is not Islamic but a figment to discredit the religion of Islam by some elements set to achieve their motive.
"It is an attempt to cripple Muslims and Islam by all means in its entirety. They want to destabilize the country and make Islam unattractive to the world, especially the west which sees it as anti-democratic and western culture."
Explaining that the so-called Boko Haram was unfounded in Islam and terrorism was a conspiracy to destabilize the country and paint Islam black, Bunza advised traditional and spiritual leaders to restrain themselves from making unguided utterances that could incite subjects and followers against each other.
He further said that government should be sincere, open and honest at taming the menace of killings, stressing that "government should step up efforts through collective responsibilities to bring to book the culprits and make public their identities for commensurate punishment."
Bunza noted that the country will not break if leaders and followers tune to the path of justice, equity and fairness to all, a development he observed that the western world was against.

Prof, we have heard several times that Islam is a religion of peace but the only thing we have not heard is the Quranic verse/s where this can be validated. Could you quote relevant verses to authenticate this claim. For me until proved otherwise I have come to believe that Islam is not a religion of peace going by the quantum of blood letting, mayhem, calamity, sorrow, grief, destruction etc brought into this world by the adherents of this religion.
ReplyDeleteboko haram have chosen the vehicle of islam because it provides the most suitable framework for their violent ideology
ReplyDeleteIslamic religion is nt a peaceful religion, u need to make more research prof. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Libya are 90% Islamic, these countries are killing, bombing every here and then, so what makes islamic a peaceful religion?.
ReplyDelete@anonymous writers
ReplyDeletehistory has it that crusades started these kind of act for over 80 years that the Massacre of Muslims/and non western Christians continued in the name of crusade, to take Jerusalem; which was a peaceful settlement of all the three faith major faith prior to crusade, despite the plea by muslims for peace in return for jerusalem. the church then said no real christian will negotiate with a muslim( i still see element of these at present day). these stop when a some soldier decided to match them in what ever form(though these form not accepted by islam)check for the BBC documentary on crusades
Islam religion of Peace???!!! Balatant LIE! Islam is all about violence and bloodshed!
ReplyDeleteIslam is a devil-inspired religion! Islam is rubish and hell bound!
Islam stems from its root word “Salaam” which means Peace and this concept of peace can be traced back to the early days of Islam when Muslims were persecuted for practicing their religion. Various proofs exist in the Qur’an where Muslims have been enjoined to co-exist with adherents of other religions. Qur’an2 vs256 states “There is no compulsion in any religion” and Q60vs8and Q5vs9 enjoin Muslims to be show kindness and justice towards non-believers in Islamic faith.
ReplyDeleteHowever, our problem is the fact that we have been brainwashed by western-ridden media whose aim is to dissuade people from the real facts of Islam. In countries over the world, Muslim women are castigated and mocked for wearing their hijab(veil) while a catholic nun is seen as an object of respect when she uses her veil. A Jew is seen adhering to his faith when he leaves his beard unshaved while a Muslim is laughed at when he keeps his beards. These and many other examples abound how Muslims are persecuted for being true to their religion.
Islam and Muslims are also judged by acts put up by some pseudo-adherents of Islam whose aims are nothing close to Islamic but personal, ethnic or political. In Nigeria, when killings and kidnappings were so much rampant in the Niger Delta, nobody said they were fighting for a religious cause but a fight for a rightful claim to their lands. However, when Boko Haram case came up, it was said to be a cause for Islam. It is so funny that a group fights for the cause of Islam and majority of the people killed so far in their operations are Muslims. What Boko Haram wants is far from being Islamic.
The USA on August 6, 1945, used a massive atomic weapon on two densely populated cites in Japan- Hiroshima and Nagasaki wiping out tens of thousands of people. Today, America is at the forefront of fighting terrorism, who is fooling who?! It is so sad that people are easily deceived these days by what they see or hear on the media without taking time to make their findings. The true nature and teachings of Islam cannot be understood from acts of deviant groups but reading good Islamic texts and listening to good Scholars of Islam. That is only when you appreciate the true beauty of Islam.
If u call yourselves christians with your responses as above, you can not be good christian because the tone of your comments about others sounds unholy and looks devilish because a good christian does not abuse or curses.the path therefore remains that u are truly not speaking for christians or any religion because good Christians agree with the comment and if u doubt the claim, buy or take a copy of the Quran and read yourself to justify your point. As supposed leaders of tommorrow, we should engage in what unite than what divide and as a believer, no religion habours violence even the Traditional religion God is same everywhere s.N.E.W. pLEASE be guided
ReplyDeleteFor the benefit of doubt, i quite disagree with the writer of comment one to three because it is unfair for you guys to write & castigate Islam like that. but what i really believe is that the level of your knowledge about the word religion or Islam is not up to date and for the fact that you have made up your mind not to see any good about Islam will not allow you to make your research.
ReplyDeleteI would just appeal with people coming out to make comment that they should be mindful of what they write and learn more about what is happening around the world critically before passing their judgement.
let us not be deceived the boko harm thing is more POLITICAL than religious issue. beware
ReplyDeleteProf., kindly address issues raised by Boko Haram and stop saying that there is no terrorism in Islam. How about these people forcing people to be ruled by Islam injunction when they are not Muslims? When they go about killing people in recreation areas on religion basis; among others. Then what is the difference between terrorism and what they are doing? It is not enough to say there is no terrorism in Islam, you need to tell your fellow Muslims that it is wrong to carry gun and say Islamic injunction must be exercised in a community where you have various religions otherwise, ask that Nigeria should divide and stop deceiving Nigerians.
ReplyDeleteProf may be right in asserting that Islam is a religion of 'peace' but he needs to add that 'provided it is among muslims'. This is simple to understand because even a gang of robbers can claim there is peace within the gang, but certainly anything can happen to anybody outside the gang. Islam supports killing of non-believers by believers as it earns the killer a place in 'paradise' - this is jihad. Prof. - is this true or false?
ReplyDeleteYou people dont need to argue on Religion facts. These Hausas dont take any other Muslims as Muslims as far as you're not an Hausa fellow. It is their habits to kill Christians and Muslims(that are not Hausas) with their illiterate idea that they will enter paradise cos they are fighting for JIHAD which is great mis-interpretation that needs to be addressed by the so-called ACF and other learned Hausas to preach to their Almajiris to stop killing for unnecessary issues, is long over due. But since the ACF and others are not affected all while they keep quiet instead of them to educate their Almajiris.
ReplyDeleteOpen your eyes people, there is more to this than meet the eye, this is not islam, it is politics. This is just a situation where a group of politicians are just brainwashing a group of illiterates and making them believe they are fighting for God and therefore, doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteAn anonymous writer wrote an epistle of how muslims are being persecuted worldwide. Well I am asking why wouldn't they be? Another anonymous writer wrote that boko haram have chosen the vehicle of islam because it provides the most suitable framework for their violent ideology. I am 100% in agreement with that comment. In as much as this is more of a political affair than religious, it does not stop the fact that muslims will continue to be the most hated people worldwide. At the slightest opportunity to shed innocent blood you see them running like nama on stampede.
ReplyDeleteMr Anon....! You are so funny! Read what you said again: "In Nigeria, when killings and kidnappings were so much rampant in the Niger Delta, nobody said they were fighting for a religious cause but a fight for a rightful claim to their lands. However, when Boko Haram case came up, it was said to be a cause for Islam. It is so funny that a group fights for the cause of Islam and majority of the people killed so far in their operations are Muslims. What Boko Haram wants is far from being Islamic"
ReplyDeleteI am not from the Niger Delta but I bet You understand why they were fighting... their oil is used to developed the North! They never raise the topic of religion, that cannot be said of the Boko Haram whose utterances from day one is religion this religion that! Wake up please!
