The police have arrested a Chadian, Abdullahi Guto
and an Islamic teacher, Mallam Ayuba Kuchiko, who are believed to be
members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram in Niger State.
The arrests were made public by the Assistant
Inspector-General in charge of Zone 7 Police Command, Mr. Atiku Kafur,
during a news conference in Abuja on Friday.
Guto, who lived with one Alhaji Bashir in Maiduguri,
capital of Borno State, was picked up at Gbadu village in Lapai Local
Government Area. He was said to have joined the sect in his home
country, Chad, after he was dismissed from school for protesting against
a beauty contest.
Until he was arrested in Madal, the second suspect,
Kuchiko, ran a non-formal Islamic school that had a population of about
40 pupils.
Kafur told journalists that Kuchiko confessed to
being an ally of wanted terrorists, such as Mallam Adamu Maigini, Mallam
Bashir, Yunusa Katako, Mallam Mdala, Idris Bank and one Captain Bahago.
He said that investigations were ongoing to apprehend
the allies of the Islamic teacher, adding that detectives were on the
trail of other suspected members of Boko Haram.
Kafur said, “On Jan 29, 2012 at about 6pm, one
Abdullahi Gouto, a Chadian was arrested at Gbadu village in Lapai local
Government Area of Niger State. He hails from Chad Republic and speaks
Arabic and French languages.”
