In a move to avert the impending Labour protests across the country on Monday, President Goodluck Jonathan, Saturday night, in a national broadcast. announced new policy measures to ameliorate the hardship on Nigerians occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.
President Jonathan said that some of the measures include; the cutting of salaries of all political office holders by 25 percent; the directive that all ministries, departments and agencies(MDAs) to reduce their overheads; and reduction of all overseas travels by government officials to the bearest minimum in 2012.
The President also promised to sanitise the oil industries, just as he promised to launch by tomorow a robust mass transit programme, in partnership with states, LGs, transport owners and banking institutions with zero percent interest rate.
In His words,
“To save Nigeria, we must all be prepared to make sacrifices. On the part of Government, we are taking several measures aimed at cutting the size and cost of governance, including on-going and continuous effort to reduce the size of our recurrent expenditure and increase capital spending. In this regard, I have directed that overseas travels by all political office holders, including the President, should be reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips will also be drastically reduced; only trips that are absolutely necessary will be approved.
” For the year 2012, the basic salaries of all political office holders in the Executive arm of government will be reduced by 25%. Government is also currently reviewing the number of committees, commissions and parastatals with overlapping responsibilities. The Report on this will be submitted shortly and the recommendations will be promptly implemented. In the meantime, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies must reduce their overhead expenses.”
is this enough?

Absolute rubbishhhhhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeleteThis is not enough. Fight the corruption in Nigeria and PDP. What happened to Bankole theft case and others. Build more refineries and fix the existing ones to stop the criminal cartels. Stop punishing the masses. 25% cut is only on allowances, when the polticians spend over 50% of Nigeria resources for doing nothing. It's disgrace, that no proper debate had been allowed on the issue.
ReplyDeleteTalking of mass transit plan, what happens to those who resides in the Riverrine area, who relys on water transport(outboard engine) and where there are no motorable roads, how many Okada is Goodluck providing for them? to alleviate their sufferings.
ReplyDeleteWe need far more than this. The entire system has to be re- engineered before we talk about introducing fuel subsidy removal. I know some public thiefs ( officials) are waiting for this money already. Jonathan may have good mind what abt his family PDP. What abt our railway system, who are peoPle responsible for fail TAM in our refineries. If we must make sacrifice who are the priest to hold our sacrificial lamb (excess of removal) the priest that stole our excess crude lamb amOng themselves . Nigeria arise to the revolution
ReplyDeleteAll these measures are no way in my opinion alleviate the poverty of the masses. What food production measure has been taken to ensure that the little they work for is not wasted on daily food?
ReplyDeleteMr president was just unfortunate to have entered into a Nigeria already messed up by our past Leaders. Many are still alife peeping from difeerent corners, laughing at the country they have killed. My own opening is that let what happened in Ghana start fast in Nigeria.Nigerians know who is who in this country. They cannot run away. They must lose all ill-gotten wealths.I blame Boko haram, who should have started with those people whether they are their brothers or not.Nigeria must rise now and look for their looted economy. If am Mr.President,if Nigeria becomes ungovernable for me,I will quickly divide the country into Southern & Northern Nigeria,
