Jonathan Urges Boko Haram to Dialogue

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged Boko Haram to open discussions with the Federal Government.
In an interview with Reuters at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, the President said his administration was willing to find out the reasons for a string of bomb atacks and killings that have claimed thousands of lives since July 2009.

Jonathan also said there was no doubt that Boko Haram had links with other terrorist groups outside Nigeria.
The President, who avoided calling the group by name, said, “If they clearly identify themselves now and say this is the reason why we are resisting, this is the reason why we are confronting government or this is the reason why we destroy some innocent people and their properties … then there will be a basis for dialogue,” Jonathan said.
“We will dialogue, let us know your problems and we will solve your problem but if they don’t identify themselves, who will you dialogue with?”
Meanwhile, Boko Haram leader, Mallam Abubakr Shekau, on Thursday threatened to bomb schools and universities unless security agents stopped atacking Islamic schools in parts of the North.
In a 40-minute video clip on YouTube, the Boko Haram leader also said soldiers were responsible for the deaths of civilians in Friday’s deadly atacks that claimed 185 lives in Kano.
In what indicates that the group may have come under intense pressure from other Islamic groups over the Kano killings, Shekau said Boko Haram set out to kill only security agents and Christians.

  1. where in the world has it been reported that a country's president actually wants to dialogue with a TERRORist group? Terrorists only know one thing, and that is to strike terror by killing. The AMERICAN govt does not negotiate with terrorists, they are wiped out.

  3. We have a foolish and weak president, shame on Jonathan, I hope he gets blown up during the next attack. I can't believe this fool was voted in, we are in serious trouble.

  4. This is a good way for the president and Nigerians to hear from the horses mouth. First, let them come forth in person then, we can be sure about the constituent of the group... If they refuse to come forward, then, their cowardice is confirmed. Hence, crushing them will be easier than expected.

Right now, the government is fighting 'air' (nothing concrete).

    GOD BLESS GEJ!

  7. I really dont want to believe that GEJ or security operatives dont know who they are fighting. Is it possible that a HeadMaster does not know the number of students in his school or what they are capable of? Is it possible for a foreign student to come into a class and receive lectures without being noticed as not a member of the class? Well, I cannot be deceived. Just observing how things unfold...
