KANO, Nigeria – Gunmen stormed a church in northern Nigeria Thursday and killed six people as they were praying, the pastor said, as an ultimatum from Islamists for Christians in the region to leave expired.
“It was around 7:30 pm (1830 GMT),” John Jauro told AFP of the attack in the city of Gombe.
“I was leading the congregation in prayers. Our eyes were closed when some gunmen stormed the church and opened fire on the congregation. Six people were killed in the attack and 10 others were wounded.”
He said there was confusion as worshippers sought to flee at the Deeper Life Christian Ministry Church.
“The attackers started shooting sporadically. They shot through the window of the church, and many people were killed including my wife,” Jauro told Reuters. “Many of my members who attended the church service were also injured.”

Is Nigeria due for all these? Let's have a rethink. Nigeria is greater than an individual or group. Those that are against progressive change should give way for a better Nigeria on steam. These killings must stop. And enough is enough Mr President!
ReplyDeleteThese people are motivated by the devil and they should know that "he kill with sword shall die by sword",they will not escape the judgement of God.
ReplyDeleteIt is really starting to look more and more political.
ReplyDeleteThe God that we serve will proof Himself shortly because they will turn against themselves and kill one another until they are fully exterminated.
ReplyDeleteI want to see this as failure of Christians in Nigeria to declare a state of emergency in terms of prayer and fasting. if all churches in Nigeria will come together, order just a day fasting and prayer including all their children and animals. God, I am too sure will rise in His might and cause total confusion on the camp of these enemy of Christians and they will begin to kill one another until there would not be one Boko Haram member in Nigeria. God will do this, but let CAN president wake and cry unto God with all believers in Nigeria. This is beyond the present government and it is only God alone who can help in this matter. And this help will come through united prayer and fasting unto a God that answers prayer by fire.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a sad moment ,for this country is drifting towards anarchy as we all trade blames across the religious divides. Muslims and Christains must see the current wave of killings of innocent citizens as a call for a united front to fight the common enemy-Bad governance shrouded by an anarchist agenda to keep us appart. We should note that Muslims are also killed by the imaginary 'jihadists' who are largely not in anyway organized enough to be commiting all these crimes. We must look beyond region and reigion as a nation and begin to question the way government is creating the situation that leads to mistrust and hatred among the people through its penchant for corruptio at all levels. We must demand for equity and justice so that poverty, illiteracy and despondency is addressed. We must ensure that those that are leading the nation truely lead by example. In a country of 170m,why should 70%. Of the budget be used to subsidize the lives of less than a million public workers who do not contribute anything to the productive sector?why must all of us pay for their foreign trips, fuel, vehicles, food ,housing and even clothing? To my mind, what is happening between Christains and Muslims in this country is the handiwork of both internal and external agendas that want to keep us divided using religious intolerance as a powerful tool to achieve their sinister objectives. In Kano, the Occupy Nigeria is giving fresh hope that Christains and Muslims can indeed fight the common enemy. Let's begin from this example of cooperation and spread it across the nation.
ReplyDeleteIn reaction to Rabia Hussain's comment, for me to believe that this is not targeted against christians alone, I would want to know how many mosques have been bombed and worshippers there rained with bullets life. These Boko Haram inherited war against christians from past muslim attack and hostilities against christians. Honest commentators should know that christians have suffered for so long in than hands of muslims jihadists and extremists for several occasions in Nigeria, especially in the Northern part of this entity called Nigeria. To us as christians, our weapons of warfare are not carnal but mighty through God in pulling down stronholds. Our God shall fight for us for the blood of innocent souls shall never go in vain. I am not praying for other religions places of worships to be attacked or object of one, but we all know that there is strong consternation for christians presence in the Northern part of this country. God, the silent judge shall fight for the course of His children. Thank you.
