Fuel Subsidy protest: FG denies shutting Blackberry services

The Federal government have denied shutting down Blackberry services for two weeks, over the messages that are being exchanged on the recent deregulation of the downstream sector of the economy. The federal government also denied futher plans to shut down Blackberry services  future.

In a statement that was issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, said the Executive Vice-Chairman Dr. Eugene Juwah didn’t at anytime had meeting with any of the Chief Executive Officer of Telecom operators in the country.


According to the statement, “The attention of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been drawn to an information making rounds that the NCC had, at a meeting this morning agreed with CEOs of telecommunications networks to shutdown Blackberry Services in order to deny Nigerians the use of that very important social network.

“The Management hereby states categorically that there was never such a meeting held, nor was there ever a resolution to shut down Blackberry services. The Public is please advised to disregard such information.”

The Commission therefore urged the network operators to continue to provide all telecommunication services, including Blackberry Services without fail.
