An indefinite general strike has been declared by labour leaders from
Monday, January 9, 2012, in response to the Federal Government’s
removal of fuel subsidy.
A communique signed by the National President of the Nigeria Labour
Congress, Mr. Abdulwaheed Omar, and President-General of the Trade Union
Congress, Mr. Peter Esele, said the strike would not be called off
until the reversal of the pump price of petrol from N141 to N65.
The labour leaders advised Nigerians to buy food and other necessities in preparation for the strike.
He also called on Nigerians to organise mass rallies, street protests and participate in the indefinite strike.
