Boko Haram Bomb Blasts - Open Letter from NLC to the President

The Nigeria Labour Congress has said the constant successes being recorded by members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the country are indications that the security system of the country is weak.
The Congress, in a statement signed by its President, Comrade
Abdulwahed Omar, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to arrest the carnage.
It said the killings of more than 250 people in Kano on Friday and the killings of about 11 other people in Bauchi on Sunday called for urgent need to rebuild the country's security policy.
"We call on the Federal Government to urgently overhaul the country's security and intelligence community as well as provide contemporary equipments and manpower that will enable the various agencies improve their competence in handling security challenges, especially as terrorism seems to have taken root in Nigeria," the statement added.

ARREST THE CARNAGE NOW

The Nigeria Labour Congress views with patriotic concern the growing state of insecurity that seem to have engulfed some parts of the country, and calls for far reaching actions from the Federal Government.
Armed groups have been attacking residents of several parts of the North, culminating in the bloodiest of such attacks in Kano where about 250 people were reported to have died as a result of multiple bomb attacks in several locations in the commercial city. This was followed with another attack in Bauchi.
We see in all these attacks a total failure of our security system that has consistently displayed incompetence in securing lives and properties of everyone living in Nigeria.

We have noticed that on all occasions when bombs were detonated, all we hear from security agencies are lamentations about their state of helplessness as well as unfulfilled promises of improvement.
We call on the Federal Government to urgently overhaul the country's security and intelligence community as well as provide contemporary equipments and manpower that will enable the various agencies improve their competence in handling security challenges, especially as terrorism seems to have taken root in Nigeria.

We however note that what has heightened these challenges are deeply rooted in our government's failure in combating the country's socio-economic deficiencies which has led to unemployment, collapse in our education system, collapse of industries as well as other infrastructures. All these have been compounded by the recent increase in the pump price of petrol.
We therefore call on the government at all levels to take urgent steps to address these socio economic challenges.

On behalf of all Nigerian workers, we condole with the families of all those who lost their lives in these unfortunate incidents and also call on government to compensate all the families of the dead as well as take responsibility for the effective treatment of those injured.
We appeal to all Nigerians to see every part of the country as their homes and reject the interpretation in some quarters that these attacks are directed towards ethnic cleansing.
Abdulwahed I.  Omar
President

  5. Your critique seems sympathetic, but Our gorverment needs to take a very bold steps in getting of the Boko Haram people. President Jonathan should seek for assisdtance from his predisesor( Obasanjo).

We can not be looking to see all our heroes sweeping off the tracks.

    God Bless Nigeria.

  7. stupid ....... Boko Haram does not live in the villa, the terrorists are your neighbours flush them out or go and "Occupy" their space so that they cannot operate. NLC don't mess around with people who carry explosives or they will hijack your action again to cause mayhem to innocent citizens with regime agenda. Why dont you talk to those who said they will make Nigeria ungovernable if they are not in power or the SNG after all they said they had all the solutions.

  9. The real fact remains that those that sponsor Boko Haram try to cover themselves as innocent of it but God knows you all both the past military presedents and vice presedents from nothern part of the country. My own opinion is that southerners remain in the southern part of the country while northerners remain in the northern part of the country. Under the auspicious of Boko Haram,Northerners have reduced the Southerners drastically even though South feeds them and all their looting.Goodluck has been blind-folded,negatively influenced and pushed to the wall. The question is can he take the bull by the horn?

  10. country men/women, the issue of Boko Haram is a serious issue and should be treated as such. Lets forget about the betrayal of NLC/TUC/GEJ and tackle this issue headlong. As such every good suggestion should be welcomed and analyzed, irrespective of where it is coming from or who is providing it. We all are affected here...

  12. ultimatum to do what? B-H are the almajiris of 20 years ago who have matured into merciless killers because they were brought up in an environment devoid of love but dogmatic indoctrination. Is this the type of problem you can solve overnight - when somebody has been repeatedly told he will go to heaven if he commits a heinous crime in the name of Allah. I pity those who think so

  13. Then those who give them such teachings are Devil and wicked soul that will receive wrath of God in their entire life. This is one of the devilish islamic teachings that mal and destroy peoples life. How can one be brainwashed to this level of terminating innocent people's life. The most annoying thing is that GEJ is keeping quiet too much ont this issues,is he waiting till these animals infilterate into other pars of the country because if this remains unchecked they will expand their area of coverage by paying jobless ones to destroy souls.Whoever is behind the destructions God of vengeance will visit them very soon because this is ungodly.

  15. I don't trust Nigeria government. I think the Boko Haram is the government herself. They are trying to let people see reasons for their failures.
