The police in Bauchi State has charged four officials of the Mainstream Bank, Misau branch, Bauchi to court for allegedly conniving with the unknown armed robbers to rob the bank in September, this year, the state Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba, has said.
Aduba spoke with newsmen in Bauchi yesterday saying, “after we concluded our investigations on the bank robbery, we have charged the bank officials indicted to the court. ‘’Both the Azare robbery attack and the Ganjuwa Local government Secretariat attack were carried out through insiders’ collaborations.’’
Aduba who said the police were able to prevent the robbers from stealing over N2 million salaries of the junior workers from the finance department in the local government, added that due to relentless effort of the police on duty that night, the gunmen were unable to carry out their operations in the area.
In September, this year, unknown gunmen numbering about 30 attacked both the Mainstream Bank and a police station in Misau local government and carted away about N19.2million, during which five policemen and a civilian were killed.
The Police later accused the bank officials of inside collaboration.
However, Aduba further said, “From the on the spot assessment of the crime scene, the issue of an insider act was so glaring and cannot be ruled out, because the hoodlums constructively broke into the door leading to the emergency exit of the bank,’’ adding that ‘’While the manager escaped, two of the bank staffs with the keys to the strong room were on the ground to hand over the said keys to the bandits with little or no threat”
