Senate President, David Mark
A fatal motor accident involving the convoy of the Senate President, David Mark, yesterday claimed the lives of his official driver and a Police Inspector attached to his office.
The accident, which involved the official car of the Senate President,
occurred around the Benue Burnt Bricks Junction in the outskirts of
Otukpo town at about 7.30 a.m. Sunday.
Eyewitnesses said a trailer loaded with cement and heading towards
Otukpo town had a head-on collision with the official car, leaving two
persons dead on the spot while the third, a security personnel who was
said to be in critical condition ,was rushed to Makurdi for medical
attention.
It was further gathered that the Senate President was not travelling in the convoy at the time of the accident.
However, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate
President, Paul Mumeh, who was also in the convoy, said only the driver
died in the accident.
He said apart from the dead driver, identified as Inspector Honourable
Abah, two other security aides of the Senate President, identified as
Corporal James Ogwuche and Constable Rasheed Quadiri were also injured
in the accident.
The remains of the dead driver, according to Mumeh, had been deposited
at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, while the
injured ones were receiving medical attention at the same hospital.
However the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPR), Mr. Ejike
Alaribe, told reporters that he was yet to get an official brief on the
accident.
