ADO-EKITI-The former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, Wednesday returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, three years after he left, with a pledge to join hands with others to rebuild the party to its lost glory, even as he indicated interest for the National Vice-Chairman of the party in the South-West.
Fayose who was received by leaders of the party in his Araromi Ward, Afao Ekiti, including Chief Dayo Okondo, a member of Board of Trustees, BOT, Femi Bamisile, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and Lai Oke, the former House Leader, promised to bring together all the aggrieved members of the party, who for one reason or the other left the party.
The former governor dumped the party in 2009 after the gubernatorial elections in the state and later joined the Labour Party, LP, where he contested for a senatorial election and lost to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, candidate, Senator Babafemi Ojudu
Fayose said: ‘’l have to thank God for making today’s event possible and especially some prominent members of the PDP who had come to my Lagos and Ibadan homes to persuade me to come back to the party. After all, l am not god and l do not want to play god. If they all agreed that l should come to PDP, there is no way l cannot turn them down.”
Fayose said he harboured no animosity with any of the leaders of the party in the state, including the immediate past governor of the state, Engr. Segun Oni.
He said he had no regret fighting the former governor at the time he did because the situation at that time informed his decision, saying ‘’some people are saying you want to come back to PDP, can you work with Obasanjo? The fact is that, l have nothing against the former president. There is nobody l cannot work with.”
On Governor Kayode Fayemi, Fayose said: ‘’Fayemi is not my enemy, let us leave Fayemi out of this matter and let us build our house.”
The former governor used occasion to announce his intension to contest for the Vice Chairmanship of the party in the South West, promising to use his influence to bring back the party’s lost glory in the zone.
He said: ‘’l have the sagacity and clout to bring the party to its enviable past, l will use my influence to reposition the party and bring the party to its old glory.”
Fayose later received his party card with registration number 4619857 from the chairman of the party in his ward, Chief Olaiya Ajibola.
