A 21-year-old student of the Kogi State polytechnic, James Shadrach, is being interrogated by men of the Kogi State Command of the State Security Services (SSS) over his alleged claim of being a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
While parading the suspect at the weekend, Kogi State SSS director said Shadrach (along with other unknown persons) engages in using text messages to threaten people and in the process causing panic among the residents, and urged the public to be weary of such messages.
Shadrach an indigene of Odo-Ere, Yagba West Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State, told reporters that he is not involved in Boko Haram activities and that he was only joking with his friend (Monday), adding that he was not aware of the implications of the text messages.
Jegede Johnson Monda, a classmate of the suspect who received the messages, said he received a total of six (6) threat messages from an unidentified phone number ordering him to come to Boka Haram headquarters at Kabawa, a local settlement at the base of Mount Patti in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
He said though the message did not make any demand from him, he informed his parents who advised him to relocate from the school premises and reported to the SSS. He said that he reported to the SSS out of fear of being attack but later discovered the text messages were coming from his friend and classmate.
