ABUJA—The Nigerian Army weekend promoted officers from the ranks of
Major to Colonels, with over 200 officers in Army formations across the
country elevated to the next rank.
Amongst the officers promoted to the rank of Colonel are Lt. Colonel Sani K. Usman, Lt. Colonel John Agim-Agim, Lt. Colonel (Mrs.) Mba of the medical corps, Lt. Colonel Yakubu Brown, Lt. Colonel Haladu Buba, Lt. Colonel Boniface Nda Oguanya, Lt. Colonel Shehu Mustapha, Lt. Colonel BO Amanko, Lt. Colonel Henry Wesley. Lt. Colonel Y Bako, Lt. Colonel Kabir Mohammed Yinusa while Major Kingsley Samuel was elevated to the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Speaking at the decoration of some of the officers in Abuja Monday, Commander of the Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Mike Nasamu, urged the officers to see their elevation to the rank of “full colonel” as the handiwork of God as their promotions did not arise for being the best, most handsome or due to being rich but by His special grace.
Disclosing that with the new ranks, he expected nothing short of “improved quality advise, improved quality of comradeship, improved quality of companionship” from the officers to enable the AHQ Garrison surmount the challenges vested on it, General Nasamu warned them to remember that “victory has a thousand fathers while failure is an orphan.”
Continuing, he said “at this rank, ego should be your biggest challenge. I expect you at this level to be peacemakers. Don’t feel or say something you cannot defend. And let me inform that the road to the next promotion begins today. That means you have to be impeccable in your actions, and mistakes will no longer be tolerated.”
Earlier, Chief of Staff of AHQ Garrison, Brigadier General Bamigboye, told the officers that three important responsibilities had been put on their shoulders with the elevation, including the fact that “some of you can now serve as Chairmen of promotion boards of officers junior to you.
“As a Colonel also, you are not permitted to make mistakes; you have to get closer to God for guidance on daily basis not to fall into temptation and not to make mistakes”.
Among those decorated are Colonel John Agim, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, AHQ Garrison, Colonel Haladu Buba, Assistant Director, Physical Training, AHQ Garrison and Colonel Shehu Garba Mustapha, Assistant Director, Islamic Affairs, AHQ Garrison.
