Ajimobi, Alao-Akala feud over solidarity with Tinubu

FORMER Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State yesterday berated his successor, Governor Abiola Ajimobi over his relationship with the leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Bola Tinubu.
Alao-Akala said for the governor to leave his duty post for a solidarity trip to Abuja with Tinubu being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for operating foreign accounts while in office as governor of Lagos State smacks of “executive joblessness.”

In a swift reaction, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state, which dismissed Alao-Akala’s comments, said his actions and utterances in recent times were due to his joblessness and quest for relevance.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Matthew Oyedokun, said “at a time like this when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had swapped role with the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NDP), otherwise known as Demo of the First Republic, in its nefarious role of jailing Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in its attempt to nail Bola Ahmed Tinubu by all means, it is consequent on all men of goodwill to demonstrate against tyranny of federal might.”

Alao-Akala had in a statement by his spokesman, Dotun Oyelade, said no matter the level of indebtedness to the ACN leader, Ajimobi should not subject himself to the “grovelling subordinate at the beck and call of his boss.

“Only last week, the same Tinubu directed the Governor Ajimobi to represent him at a function in Osogbo. Ajimobi must realise that he represents a proud people who see themselves as equals to others and stop the embarrassment forthwith.”

But the ACN insisted that Ajimobi would show his solidarity to his party leader “again and again, if only to show his abhorrence of federal evil, a version of which Alao-Akala inflicted on Oyo State for four years.”

The ACN urged the trio of Alao-Akala, the PDP and their spokespersons to accept the difficult fact that they had lost totally in the politics of the state and stop acting as self-imposed ombudsman of the people.
“Whether the PDP and its hirelings in Oyo State like it or not, but for Tinubu, we would by now be having a version of Kamuzu Banda’s patrimonial, autocratic and personal rule in Nigeria, with the PDP’s crave to rule for ever. The only debt that all progressives and men of goodwill owe him is to support him in the destructive attempt at using federal might to mow down this icon of democracy, using subterfuge as its alibi,” Oyedokun said.
