ACN suspends Lagos council boss

Ahead of the October local government elections in Lagos State, the Action Congress of Nigeria, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, has suspended the Chairman of the council, Mr. Kenny Okunmuyide.

The Chairman of the party, Mr. Segun Sodiya, said Okunmuyide was suspended because of anti-party activities and his attempts to bring the party to disrepute.

He said the council boss was suspended after 33 out of the 35-member executive signed the resolution suspending Okunmuyide.

He said the party also suspended eight other members of the party who were accused of working with the council boss in an attempt to foist himself on the party ahead of the October council polls against the popular will of the majority.

Sodiya said the decision was reached in the presence of 10 members of the party’s elders council, members of the council’s executive committees and the councillors representing the seven wards in the LCDA.

When SUNDAY PUNCH sought the reaction of Okunmuyide, he dismissed the suspension as a rumour. He told our correspondent on the phone that those who claimed he had been suspended were constituting a nuisance at the secretariat.

He said, “I do not react to rumours. They do not have the right to hold any press conference at the secretariat. My tenure has not expired. They have no right to constitute a nuisance.

“They have not given me any notice; nobody wrote to me. The secretariat is not the ACN secretariat. Nobody should gather at the council to protest. Let them channel their grievances to our party secretariat.”
