About five policemen were reportedly injured following a bomb explosion which occurred at mid night near a police check point around Central Market Round About in Bauchi, Bauchi State capital yesterday.
This came on the heels of report that unknown gunmen attacked a joint security patrol vehicle and injured another policeman and a civilian between Dutsen Tanshi and Anguwar Kur along Railway area in Bauchi Metropolis.
Eyewitnesses said the explosive exploded near a police vehicle parked as the law enforcement agents were busy searching some other vehicles.
Vanguard also learnt that there were no vehicles on the queue as at the time of the blast, which injured both policemen and other people close-by.
There was panic following the explosion as people ran helter-skelter even as shop owners quickly shut their stores and scampered for safety.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, Mohammed Barau said “two people riding a motorcycle threw an explosive on the policemen at a check point and fled. He added that the five policemen who were injured have been treated.’’
