Eagles must change their attitude to national call – Adisa

Former Green Eagles goalkeeper Amusa Adisa has charged the Super Eagles to be more committed to national assignments as that is the only key to qualifying for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup holding in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The former Shooting Stars player was reacting to the seeming lackadaisical attitude players in the senior national team exhibit towards national team assignments.

“I have high hope about our qualification for the 2012 Nation’s Cup but the problem is the players attitude towards national call. In the past, almost all the players and their coaches were at home, so it makes training consistent but these days, it is a different ball game as players with different approaches to the game are invited from all over the world. And when they come, they only train for two or three days to a match which sometimes amounts to failure.

In Europe players are always serious about their national assignments. When they are invited by their country, they honour the call and take part in all the training sessions without excuses unlike the case with our Eagles,” he said.

Continuing, Adisa said “For national team players who want to play a match, they must have not less than five training sessions before the match but we do not have that in our team. So our players should change their orientation towards the national team if we must succeed in our bid to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup.
“My advice is that, players should take the national team assignment serious, they should always respond to national calls and desist from the idea of coming to camp late. They should also know that it is an honour to be called upon to play for the national team.

Playing in the national team means a lot, so players must strive to play for their national team, starting from the junior team. Any player who does not play for his national team is nowhere in the world because that is the apex of his career,” Adisa stressed.
