THE nomination of Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, daughter of the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Richard Akinjide, SAN, for ministerial appointment has been generating mixed reactions in Oyo State.
While some indigenes of the state applauded the gesture of President Goodluck Jonathan, some said the nomination had further widened the differences in the party and would also jeopardize the reconciliation moves of the party.
To those who oppose the nomination, said it clearly shown that the national leadership of the party is just paying lip-service to the on-going reconciliation.
Senator Lekan Balogun who is of the view that the party in the state has been turned to a private property being managed by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and some people said it was the height of “incorrigibility” .
In his own view, the former Governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala through his spokesperson, Prince Dotun Oyelade commended the president for deeming it fit to accept one of his nominees.
He described Oloye Akinjide as eminently qualified and that the President would find her contribution very useful for the country.
Also, a socio-cultural group in Ibadan, Ibadan People’s Front [IPF] said the nomination was well deserved considering the antecedents of the nominee.
The group through its founder, Dr. Dejo Raimi, said the nomination was gladdening to the people of Ibadan because of the position of the state capital as the largest place with the highest number of registered voters in the last election.
“Jumoke has all what it takes to be a good Minister. President Jonathan should put her in a very sensitive Ministry that requires hard work, intellect, humility and high degree of human relations. It is when that is done that the nation and the President can have the best of the highly cerebral lady’’.
