Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State on Sunday took his oath office for a second tenure at exactly 8.58am, with a promise to focus his attention in creating five hundred thousand new jobs towards tackling youth unemployment in the state.
The governor arrived the Cenotaph, venue of the swearing in ceremony in Asaba, at about 7.40am even before many dignitaries and some clergymen and worshippers that attended a denominational service that preceded the swearing in.
The Governor claded in native attire along with his wife, Roli, exuded confidence while addressing the audience, however warned that he would be strict in the appointment of new Commissioners in the State, noting that the time for mediocrity was over.
Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Abiodum Smith administered the oath of office on the governor and his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama.
His words: “we are solidifying strategic alliance and partnerships to attract heavy investments into the State.
“We are getting results. A legally binding MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed between the Federal Government represented by NNPC, Saudi Arabian and Indian investors to a 10 billion dollars Petrochemical plant, the largest in Africa on our economy, a fertilizer and fertilizer blending plants.
“The Federal Government”, he went on, “has also approved feasibility studies for a gas central processing facilities and thankfully Mr. President is solidly behind the success of these projects. Imagine for a second the impact of these projects. Just picture for a second the required services, infrastructure, manpower, auxiliary services; even the life of the roadside trader will be touched.
“This is not mere words. With this alone, an estimated five hundred thousand jobs would be created alongside many support services and industries. Imagine the effect of this on economy of our state in few years time. That is not all.
By being business friendly, we now have 250 million dollar private sector investment for the Delta Leisure Resort project, which will have a theme park, a wild life park and five star hotel and so on. We are on the threshold of turning Delta into a tourist destination. Scheduled to finish in 2013, this project is going to generate about six thousand jobs”.
