Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, has called for reconciliation among political stakeholders and the people of the state in order to usher in the much desired stability and socio-economic growth.
Governor Suswam made this call in Makurdi at his inaugural speech after being sworn in for a second term in office.
He maintained that since elections have come and gone, it was time for the people to set aside the political differences and form an alliance against the various challenges confronting the people in order to move the state forward.
According to the Governor, “Now is the time to work, we see a brighter future ahead of us. I invite sons and daughters of Benue at home and in diaspora to join us as we move our state forward”.
The Governor who assured that his administration would ensure the protection of property and the preservation of the sanctity of human lives in the state warned that his administration would resist any attempt by any group or persons to create a state of anarchy in Benue.
He recalled that he won his second term as the Governor of Benue State on the strength of his performance and accomplishments in office in the last four years.
According to him, the opposition underestimated the strength of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the developmental strides of the government in Benue State emphasizing that his reelection has justified his administration’s dogged determination to impact meaningfully on the generality of people of the state.
While recounting the numerous completed and uncompleted developmental projects undertaken by his administration in the last four years, Governor Suswam sued for cooperation from the people of the state to enable his administration redefine and implement the second phase of the “Our Benue Our Future” working document of the government.
He said, “As we begin the second term of my administration, we cast our minds back before the advent of this administration when our people grappled with high rate of armed robbery, poor roads and environmental degradation, dilapidated classrooms, poor management of resources and general lack of basic infrastructures across the state”.
