IT was not just all about oath taking for a fresh term of four years for Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi , Sunday, in Port Harcourt as it was also a day the governor publicly reunited with his erstwhile political boss, former governor of the state, Dr Peter Odili.
It was a surprise to many at the Corpus Christi Cathedral church, on Kaduna street, Port Harcourt where the ecumenical thanksgiving service held Sunday morning before the oath taking ceremony at the Liberation Stadium when the officiating priest, Most Rev Dr Camillus Etokudoh announced to the congregation that former governor Peter Odili and his wife were in church to celebrate the day with Governor Amaechi and his family. Midway into the service, Amaechi and Odili exchanged plesantries.
Meantime, at the Liberation Stadium, Governor Amaechi assured that his administration would take steps to consolidate it gains in its first four years. The governor who extended a hand of fellowship to all willing to contribute to the development of the state said he would not slow down on his development drive. He said there had been calls on him to slow down the pace so that he does not lose focus but he had seen that there were still much to do. Hence, he would rather opt to speed up the drive.
Promising to run a people centred government the governor said his second term would among other things focus on urban renewal, improve on power generation, quality of education and health care. He said the government would also ensure that the new Rivers state University of Science and Technology is completed before the expiration of his tenure.
