Police warn against electoral violence

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police Administration, Force Headquarters, Azubuike Udah, has warned politicians against violence during the rescheduled National Assembly elections.
The elections, billed for last Saturday, were postponed due to shortage of result sheets.
Azubuike spoke with reporters yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, after a tour of Northern states.
He urged the people to abide by electoral rules and warned politicians against using their security escorts to disrupt elections.
Azubuike said any security personnel caught in such act would be prosecuted.
He said the police is ready to protect the lives and property of citizens during and after the elections.
Azubuike urged stakeholders to cooperate with the police to ensure peaceful polls.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police Suleiman Abba at a press conference yesterday urged the electorate to shun impersonation, improper use of voter cards, bribery and corruption, voting by unregistered persons, disorderly conduct, intimidation and violence during the elections.
Abba said over 30,000 policemen and other security personnel will be on ground to ensure peace during and after the elections.
