Reacting to the threat in a statement by DCP Olusola Amore, Force Public Relations Officer, the Police said: “The attention of the IGP has been drawn to a threat message supposedly placed by a criminal group under the guise of the Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta.
“The message, as published, indicated that MEND is threatening to set up bombs in various locations such as Abuja, Lagos, and oil installations in the Niger Delta areas.
“The IGP wishes to state for the avoidance of doubt that the Nigeria Police will not condone any act that is inimical or detrimental to the entire well being of all law abiding citizens of Nigeria and non-Nigerians alike.”
“As rumour mongering and false publication are designs of mischief makers who are hell bent in causing panicky situations in the country, the Nigeria police will not allow them to succeed in their nefarious plans to sell fear to Nigerians.
Continuing it said, “While the IGP is using this medium to appeal to the general public to discountenance and disregard the message, they should be cautious, careful, and be alert and report all suspicious people and their movements.
“All hands are on deck by all law enforcement agents across the country to arrest and criminal elements who may want to disturb the public peace.”
