The Peoples Party of Nigeria in Ogun State led by a former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Gboyega Isiaka, on Saturday vowed to resist any move to return to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Indeed, the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, supported Isiaka, who contested the PDP governorship primary and lost out to the faction loyal to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Following many horse-trading and litigation to reverse the decision, Isiaka and his supporters, had in protest, defected to PPN to contest the forthcoming poll on the platform of the new party.
Isiaka, a former Group Managing Director of Gateway Holdings, lost the PDP governorship ticket to the former ECOMOG Commander and Military governor of Oyo State, Gen. Adetunji Olurin.
Daniel on Friday, following the intervention by the legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), reconciled with Obasanjo and promised that the defectors as part of the reconciliation process would move back to the PDP.
However, speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Saturday, Isiaka vowed to remain in PPN, while describing the reconciliation between Daniel and Obasanjo as a PDP affair that had no effect on PPN.
He said, “Whatever happened between Obasanjo and Daniel is a PDP affair. It doesn’t concern us as PPN. Our party is a party that within the short time of its existence had swept the entire parts of the state.
“We are in PPN and in PPN we are going to achieve our mandates, so we will be contesting on the platform of the PPN. Nobody has invited us for any dialogue and nobody can call us for dialogue in PDP since we are not members of the party.
“To us PDP is dead in Ogun State, PDP is a party that is undemocratic, full of manipulations and deceits. There is nothing like internal democracy in the party, so we have moved and we have moved for good.”
Isiaka who spoke through his Media Assistant, Bolaji Adeniji, restated the move by the PPN to support the ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan for President at the forthcoming poll.
He, however, gave reason why the members of the party in the state failed to receive Jonathan during the flag off of his presidential campaign in the state.
According to him, members of the PPN could not go to receive the President in order to avert frictions with “the remnants in PDP.”
He said, “While we welcome President Jonathan as our presidential candidate, we were unable to be around to receive him to avert clash with the remnants in PDP. We welcomed him as our man and that is why we put our billboards to welcome him.
“You can see that the state had been painted yellow with our flags and billboards welcoming the President. The PDP as a party has not got these billboards. This is an indication of who is on ground in the state. We will win all polls in the state and give our votes to Jonathan.”
