ACN in a statement by its spokesman, Mr Lai Mohammed, said that the deal to deliver Lagos for the PDP at all cost had been sealed by the ruling PDP Federal Government.
However, in a swift reaction, Chief Bode George in a telephone interview, described the allegation as not only false but the imagination of the party and its leadership, saying “their bad policies is what is haunting them, especially in Lagos. Their crude ways of governance, their multiple taxation on Lagosians and their businesses are the things pursuing them around.”
ACN in its statement said, “The deal, cut at a meeting in the Presidential Villa in Abuja is simple: If Bode George delivers Lagos, he will receive a state pardon for his corruption conviction, for which he spent two years in the gulag.” Mohammed added that “everything he needs for this capture had been provided by his masters.”
The party further said, “the implication is that even President Goodluck Jonathan, for all his sweet words on ensuring free and fair elections and avoiding unethical measures to win at all cost, is ready to do anything just to ‘capture’ Lagos for his party. This is sad.”
The party said the latest deal between the FG and Bode George had shown the PDP for what it is, a party of anything goes.
“We are not surprised at this deal. After all, President Jonathan appeared at the same rally with the same man, even when he has refused to show contrition for his action, and has instead blamed everyone but himself for the fate that befell him,” it said.
The party said it will not lose any sleep over the deal, since the battle for Lagos will be fought by the people of Lagos themselves, having realised the giant strides made by the party (ACN) in the renewal of Lagos since the present political dispensation started in 1999.
But Bode George, said, “the accusation that I was given mandate to deliver Lagos to the PDP in order to be granted amnesty is total fallacy being fabricated by the bunch of crooks in the ACN. Since I came out, I have not come near the airport, not to talk of having a meeting with the presidency or the Federal Government to capture Lagos.
“They are the people who planned and charged us with the criminal laws of Lagos State put up by the state Assembly. Our trial and conviction was politically motivated to cage us, but as God will have it, their plans failed.
“It is their actions, misrule and failure that is chasing them. It is what they had done to the people of Lagos State in the last 12 years that is haunting them. We were told that we committed federal offences but we were charged with the laws made by Lagos State. How can they say that the Federal Government is given us condition to deliver Lagos for them for us to be granted amnesty? The Federal Government did not charge or convict us, that means it cannot be given condition to grant us amnesty.”
“All these are the figment of the imaginations of the ACN, because they have committed Lagos into an eternal debts. They have frustrated the common Nigerians living in Lagos,” he added.
