The two villages, Kai in Kura-Falls in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area and Gohog in Vom District of Jos South Local Government Area, were attacked almost simultaneously around 9.00 p.m on Sunday.
Five people, all members of the same family, were killed at Kai village while one person was killed at Gohog where 37 cows were stolen.
The police confirmed the attacks in a statement and gave the names of those killed at Kai as Iliya Bitrus, Martha Iliya, Philip Bitrus, Keziah Iliya and Amaze Iliya, adding that nothing was stolen by the attackers.
The statement signed by the command’s spokesman, ASP Apev Jacob, said security men rushed to the village on learning of the attack but the assailants had left when they got there.
It also gave the name of the person killed at Gohog as Douglas Jang stressing that the attackers escaped with the 37 cows when security men got there.
The statement said investigations were on to get the attackers and solicited the continued cooperation of the public for information on activities of the criminals.
Meanwhile, gunmen on Sunday shot dead a Muslim cleric in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, who was known for giving sermons condemning the actions of Boko Haram, a radical Islamic group behind months of unrest and targeted religious killings in recent months.
A witness said that the cleric was killed outside a mosque in Maiduguri when gunmen drove past and shot him at close range. The police confirmed the shooting but gave no further details.
Witnesses said the cleric was known in the local area for outspoken sermons against Boko Haram.
