Arresting Jonathan will be unwise, CAN warns Buhari

The 19 Northern States and Abuja of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has stated that it will be unwise for President Muhammadu Buhari to order the arrest of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

“Every honest Nigerian knows that the fellers on the ground is that this administration’s popularity is dwindling rapidly among Nigerian people. It is, therefore, not advisable to think or plan to arrest former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan," the body's Public Relations Officer, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said.

“Let me warn that such a misadventure will set a wrong precedent and only open door for mischief people to set this nation into confusion," he added.

“Former President, Jonathan is deservedly seen in Nigeria and beyond as a hero of democracy because of his actions before, during and after the 2015 elections.

“As such, it will be an ill advice for the Buhari administration to initiate the arrest of such a statesman at this time and with the current realities.

“Our government must know that there are individuals serving today that are also been accused of corruption but since there are claims that nothing has been established against them, they are walking and speaking like saints.

“While ignoring all these, Government now wants to arrest a man of peace like Jonathan? CAN Northern States wishes to advice that such an action, if actualized, has the capacity to lead to serious confusion that will affect Nigeria economically and otherwise.

“We believe Former President Jonathan deserves praise and should receive gratitude from those in power today not scorn.

“Let it not be that this purported planned arrest is meant to distract Nigerians from speaking or complaining about the reality of what and how they are feeling since the past eleven months, we are afraid that such an action may spark a chain of reactions.

“If our President wants to arrest anything for now then he should arrest the incessant spate of herdsmen attacks in Nigeria which has led to the deaths of almost a thousand of innocent Nigerians under his watch.

“He should arrest the dangerous slide in the power sector.he should arrest the slide in the economy.

  2. Pastor Promoter of Fraud and embezzlement. Hero indeed. It'sobvious you are afraid that Jonathan would name names of CAN leaders that collected stolen funds to pray for his second term. How can a thief be a Hero?

  3. It was this same CAN that turned themselves to a political party during Goodluck era giving him wrong advice due to their selfish interest.

  4. Arresting GEJ would be unwise but looting the nation dry under him was wise abi?
Jonathan is just like any other Nigerian. If the anti-crime agencies have anything against him, let him be invited.
Abi is there somebody above the law?

  5. I think we should focus on the problems at hand. Urgent problems. People are dying and we're here cackling about trash. The FG has not even reacted to any of these Fulani massacres. Not even a statement. Whereas we're bombarded everyday with EFCC nonsense and other corruption and travel sh*t that is going nowhere. People are DYING for goodness sake. Is security of lives not primary anymore? Would these cretin not be screamimg if this was still the last admin. Unbelievable !!

  8. IN MY OPINION, IT IS THE PRESIDENT THAT SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND TRIED FOR DECEPTION. ELEVEN MONTHS SINCE HE ASSUMED OFFICE NO IMPROVEMENT IN OUR ECONOMY, NO POWER SUPPLY, NO WATER, NO GOOD ROAD, NO GOOD HOSPITAL. WHEN HE WAS CONTESTING, HE STATED THAT WITHIN FEW MONTHS, HE WILL CHANGE EVERY THING FOR OUR GOOD BUT NOW HE IS ONLY WORKING FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY. TOURING THE WHOLE WORLD WITH HIS CHILDREN. I AM NO LONGER A MEMBER OF THE PARTY BECAUSE THIS IS NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED FROM HIM. CORRUPTION IS WORSE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE. YOU WILL UNDERSTAND MORE WHEN ANOTHER GOVERNMENT TAKES OVER.

  9. It is only in Nigeria that past leaders can be arrested to account for their stewardship while in the office. In Egypt, Italy, Frances, past leaders have been arrested, tried and even sentenced to death for what they did while in the office. Here in Nigeria, not even a former local Government chairman can be asked to account for his stewardship in the office. Its quite unfortunate. If Jonathan is found wanted, he should be arrested to account for his stewardship as former president

  10. I am not against Buhari arresting anybody or whoever but let him start from the past leaders they are all thieves he should not capitalize on Jonathan alone otherwise, he should leave Jonathan alone and start on a new page of life. Also, arresting may cause another big problem in this country because this is a man who has all the power to retain presidencing yet he left in his humbleness not to share innocent blood of common Nigerian unlike other countries who make their seat of power do or die affairs, i guess many forces might rise up to fight back, let's do things with wisdom instead of causing more chaos, Nigerians' have had enough of jargajarga
