OFFICIAL: 2015 General Elections Postponed to March 28 and April 11 2015 - Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, finally addressed Journalists at about 11 pm Saturday night, confirming the postponement of the elections as follows:

Presidential and National Assembly elections originally scheduled for 14 February have been rescheduled to March 28 while the governorship and state houses of assembly elections earlier fixed for 28 February will now hold on 11 April.

Jega said the commission was empowered by Section 26 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) to shift national elections due to some factors.

He explained that the postponement followed reports by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki(retd.), and other service chiefs that their agencies would not be able to guarantee security of INEC personnel in some parts of the country.

Jega denied holding meetings with any opposition figure or the Arewa Consultative Forum to rig election in favour of any candidate, dismissing calls on him by some people from the South-South to resign.

He also denied insinuations that the commission was forced to take shift the polls, saying INEC had taken the best decision under the prevailing circumstances.

“Nobody has forced us to take this decision; it is a very weighty decision, but under the present circumstances, we have taken the best decision and we stand by it,” he added.

For the safety of the over 600,000 Adhoc staff to be used which includes NYSC members and students of tertiary institutions, the elections have been postponed.

The INEC chairman said security operatives agencies told INEC that they were commencing a six-week special operation against Boko Haram insurgents in the north eastern corridors of the country and would rather not be distracted by the elections.

    1. Don't worry by the time they finish flushing, we will know whose boys they really are. Remember Niger, chad and Cameroon are being backed by America, Evidences cannot just be erased or manipulated anyhow with these people.
Some of these BH boys will sing, don't be surprised that their songs will not favor GEJ or PDP, dont be surprised.

  5. In the end all will be well.
Wether GEJ postpones till May 29th, his time has come to go. Like Saul he was truly chosen by God, unfortunately like the first king Saul who was the father of Jonathan in the Bible, he messed up, big time. Like Saul in the Bible, he has repeatedly shown his weakness and ineptitude.
Buhari may not be the David we seek, but while waiting for that David, we will accept him rather than continue. SO COME MARCH 28TH (or whenever INEC chooses) WE SHALL MARCH FOR BUHARI.
If una like make una go clone PVC, carry soldiers, arrest all of us, we will still win. Jonathan's time is up!!!!

    1. You guys are dreaming, the APC did well as an opposition, but got it wrong by attempting to take us back to stone age. Picking a worn out old analogue candidate in this digital age is not good enough. Therefore, they will have to wait until 2019 to give another shot at the number one position.
Meanwhile, Buhari should start rehearsing the type of cry he will give us after failing this time around. Maybe think about how to make the country more ungovernable like he's been doing.
It still baffles me how someone who forcefully destroyed democracy in the past now wants desperately to benefit from it. NEVER! BUHARI, YOU NEED TO FORGET ABOUT GETTING ELECTED, AS PUNISHMENT FOR DESTROYING DEMOCRACY.

    4. @anonymous 7:48am. I guess you were not alive in 1983 when Buhari's coup happened or you were too young. Let me educate you a little.
Shagari's govt and NPN the then ruling party (very much like PDP) had destroyed the economy of this country. We were owing, Austerity was everywhere. Musicians were already singing about how hard things were. People were actually praying for the Military to come back
Buhari taking over was a relief to Nigerians back then. Arresting the politicians who stole our money was welcomed. Although they arrested both the good and the bad.
Buhari did not destroy democracy it was the NPN govt, very much like our current pdp, who did. Babangide, GEJs political father attempted to nail the coffin with his maradona style, but God pass am.
The same God (not Buhari) is who we now call on to rescue us from this GEJ and PDP now and He will surely do it. GEJ must go!

Where are you aware of the evil he committed then ? where you also aware that someone imported more than 20 bags of foreign currency into the country and Buharia gave passage to the money and refused the custom to search the bags ? where you also aware that 2b dollars lost under his watch as PTF Chairman.......Just go and sit down bcos ur candidate is very corrupt and has no qualification to rule Nig and can not rule Nig.

    1. My friend! Collection of PVC is not the primary reason why the election was shifted but the reason is buhari's result, because buhari and APC cloned/forged someones result to make it Authentic. The original owner of that result is MOHAMED BUKAR but APC changed the 'K' to h and added 'I' at the end to make it 'BUHARI'. Proof: the original result is coming out soon and Mr Integrity will soon cover his head in shame OR are they going to say Bukar and Buhari is the same? as how they claimed mohamed and mohammadu is the same!

      Delete
    2. So you people are still at this result thing, I am not suprised though, as even if Jesus himself preaches to some people they still would not believe. Buhari has shown you the result, pictures and even cambridge themselves have said it, what else do you want? an Ibori style judgement abi, LWKMD.
See no matter what you shallow minded PDP and GEJ followers plan it will not work this time. God will not allow you people. We have seen how you people rigged ekiti elections and how you planned for Osun state, now we know better. The world is watching, God himself is at work. If you people like bring all the compromised nigerian army come March 28th. We shall March4Buhari.
This time we will not allow you people make this nation continue in so much ineptitude and impunity. enough is enough

  9. I have lost every respect for Jega. Hopefully he can see what the real plan of PDP is: to force him to resign so that the useless Senate will replace him with someone that will help Jonathan rig the election. When Jonathan is out there campaigning, this is the time for people to actually haul stones at him because he is a worthless idiot. Jega, shame on you for doing what you just did. I will never respect you again.

  13. Hmmmm.

This is clear case of power desperation at its best.

This postponement will give PDP and Pro GEJ schemers more time to mop up unsuspecting citizens pvcs

This trend is on going in all part of the country now. Hyper systemic rigging.

This govt is full of schemes and deceits. PDP wants victory at all cost just to cover up all their evil and corrupt tracts especially in this current administration.

So much wastages, cover up, evil conspiracy, impunity, stealing, official corruption, and all index of bad governance.

    God help Nigeria

  15. The desperation of pdp to force the election to be postponed has clearly shown that they are aware of the mind set of the majority of Nigerian. What the president can't do in six years he will not be able to do in six weeks. He has admitted that he is just not competent.

  16. I am disappointed with the decision by INEC. It is a calculated attempt by Jonathan and PDP to buy time so as to perfect their plans. At last APC has been proven right when they first alerted the nation about this unpopular plan. If the security agencies could not flush out boko haram in six years, it is almost impossible to do it in six weeks. It is clear that they took the decision so as to restrategize but I want to plead with Nigerians to vote out insensitive PDP that has wasted our resources since 1999. It is about our future and that of our children so no longer shall we surrender our destiny to people like Jonathan and cohorts to continue looting our common wealth. We must stop lamenting but do the needful by voting PDP out, we must not like Easu exchange our right with porridge. The little thousands to be distributed to people for vote do not worth sacrificing your destiny and that of your children for. I like my religion, ethnicity but I love and care about my country. With our votes lets liberate this country from corruption, anarchy and doom.

  23. Let's continue to pray that the will of God be done in the choice our leaders in this year's election. The postponement of the elections calls for more vigilance by all. The verdict is obvious that the Federal Government is clueless and has failed woefully beyond F9! Apologies to the eminent Economist, Prof. Soludo. When the leadership of APC alerted the nation of the plan to postpone the election, it was dismissed as propaganda. Are we not amazed at the extent of information scanning of APC? So don't get worked up about this postponement. If the plan is to rig the elections, God will expose them like what we hear about the Ekiti election. But we are confident of the CHANGE of this incompetent and corrupt government come May 29, 2015.

  24. Nigerians should be think before making on this page. Dasuki who isbthe security adviser of the presido hinted the nation of the danger of having election considering security challenges in the North East but people didnt appreciate the advise. Those blaming Jega and PDP for shifting the ekection. . One sshould appreciate GEJ for inviting former leaders for dialogue. This is democracy. He didnt give Order for shift, rather he employ Inec herachy to dialog with his commissioner and inform Nigerians possibility giving the present despensation. What us tge madness of sacrificing kives of Nigeria for an ekection that lives will be lost. Lets pray that the partnership of Chad and other neighbouring countries to root out BH finally will give room for credible election and many will collect their PVC. I wish to thank the managers of this page for taking time to curb excesses of many posters. Keep it up.

  31. Jega has disappointed many of us by postponing the dates of election. I know he is sitting on a hot seat. He should know that security adviser, Dasuki was working for Jonathan and PDP. And all they did was to buy time to perfect their rigging. The credibility of results of these elections is already shaking. Jega, unfortunately your name will go down in a very terrible manner. You conducted voting among your resident commissioners and seventeen (17) voted "No" to shifting the election time table and eleven (11) voted "Yes" to shifting the time table. My question: is 11 more than 17? I suspect that something terrible might happen between now and then. And may the Almighty God see us through. In fact, this Jonathan is a devil. He plays dirty politics and he's very desperate. In fact, I am convinced he is not a christian (though I cannot judge him). He lies toooooooo much. It is time for him and bad ones to leave Nigeria. PDP has been rigging. It's now they realised that they have to do more to perfect their rigging. Jega you are a monster and deceitful. How on earth did you say that 11 is greater than 17? I am not surprised, that is what you have been doing behind the scene. You have been used to scuttle our hard earned democracy. Chief MKO Abiola, Gani Fawehnmi, Anthony Enahoro and the likes will be cursing you already. Fellow Nigerians, expect more drama to unfold between now and then. Foolish people.
