The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe tagged APC presidential hopefuls, Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar as serial failures
The Presidency also dismissed the declaration by the former head of state General Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to contest the 2015 saying they do not pose a threat to President Jonathan if he decides to contest the presidential elections because “they are serial failures”.
Speaking with state House correspondents Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe also dismissed reports in an online website that alleging that the president was trying to use the excuse of the insurgency in the north east to elongate his tenure saying “this is not the president that would do a thing like that”.
According to him, owing to the huge pressure being brought to bear on President Jonathan from diverse quarters for him to contest the 2015 election, the president would make necessary consultation and make his decision known “soon”.
Speaking on General Buhari and Atiku Abubakar’s declaration, Dr Okupe said: “You know Yoruba people have one proverb which says it is the biggest Masquerade that comes out last. The declaration by the opposition is not really something new. Most of the candidates of the opposition are serial failures. Atiku (Abubakar) has tried twice and has failed,(Gen Mohammadu) Buhari has done it four times and he has failed. If you present yourself for an election, first, second, third and fourth times, what new things are they bringing? Have they gone to school or are they bringing new things.

“We are absolutely unperturbed. The president is going to contest against serial losers. People who never win election. People who have no leadership quality and it is even now worse for them because this president has been given four years a platform which he has demonstrated his administrative capability, efficiency and delivery. It is unarguable that these people in the APC, it is a new and good party, they would become relevant from 2019 upward, not now” he said.
On the report that the president would use the insurgency in the north eastern part of the country to elongate his tenure, the Presidential Aide said there was not truth in the report.
“This is something that is not true, this type of false information is quite characteristic and it is the hallmark of Sahara reporters in particular. But still, in order that the world is not misled, I want to state categorically here that there is no iota of truth whatsoever in that statement. There is nothing like that. And this is not the president that would do a thing like that and there is no reason whatsoever for this president to do that.
“This is the same president that, as you must have heard recently, over 12 million Nigerians have signed asking him to come out and run. All the stakeholders in his party, the PDP , have endorsed him and are actually asking him to come out and make his declaration to run and it is quite a logical thing to do because there is no reason of changing the winning team.
“Again, the issue also is that as it is everywhere in the world, endorsement itself is not undemocratic because it is a normal pattern in democratic parlance that when you have a sitting president. And he is interested in a rerun, usually he is given the first choice of refusal and the president is yet to make public his desire, but this news from Sahara reporters is absolutely untrue,it is falsehood and we deny it in all its entirety because it is part of the calculated attempts by the opposition to throw everything into the arena to embarrass this president”.
On when the president would formally make his intention known, Dr Okupe said it is “my believe that it will be after due consideration that he will take an appropriate decision that would be in the larger interest of the party and the nation but I don’t see this being too long from now”. Muhammad Buhari, Muhammad also spelled Muhammadu (born Dec. 17, 1942, Daura, Nigeria), Nigerian military leader and politician, who served as head of state (1984–85).
Educated largely in Katsina, Buhari took military training in Kaduna as well as in Great Britain, India, and the United States. He was involved in the military coup that ousted Yakubu Gowon in 1975 and was appointed military governor of North Eastern state (now Borno) that same year. He was appointed federal commissioner for petroleum resources by Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, who became military head of state when Gowon’s successor, Murtala Mohammed, was assassinated in 1976. By 1977 Buhari had become the military secretary at Supreme Military Headquarters, which was the seat of government. By September 1979 he had returned to regular army duties and commanded a division based in Kaduna. Although elected government had returned to Nigeria in 1979, dissatisfaction with what the military perceived as corrupt politicians led to another military coup on Dec. 31, 1983, and Buhari was chosen unanimously to be the new head of state.
Insurmountable economic problems plagued the Buhari regime as petroleum prices collapsed in the face of expanding foreign debt. Buhari instituted austerity measures that caused severe hardship to the average Nigerian. In addition, political corruption continued unabated, with politicians escaping to Western countries with millions of dollars in government money. In an effort to stop dissension, Buhari instituted restrictions on the press, political freedoms, and trade unionists. By August 1985 even the military had had enough, and Ibrahim Babangida took control of the government. Buhari was detained in Benin City but was released at the end of 1988.
The above is a result of a search on Encyclopedia Britannica with Muhammadu Buhari. This just to help those who were too young to know what happened in the past.
"General Yakubu Gowon ruled this country for 11 years part of which was the oil boom era and till date you can see Gowon flying commercial airlines.
ReplyDeleteBuhari ruled for less than two years during austerity measures and till today he travels on a Chatered aircraft . It's even cheaper to own one than to charter an aircraft each time you fly. He is contesting his fourth presidential election. He lost three and pursued the case all the way to the Supreme Court , being able to pay Senior advocates to appear at the Supreme Court . The minimum appearance fee for a SAN at a a Presidential election case at the Supreme Court is 25 million naira . Today he is buying a form for 27 million naira. In all his campaigns for Presidency, he has never spent less than 500 million naira. I can agree if you say he is sponsored. At least we know those who sponsored Obasanjo. Who are the sponsors of Buhari ?"

ReplyDeleteOkupe is an unrepentant political prostitute, he will follow Buhari if he wins tomorrow . Pig look alike Oshi, loose some weight bitch.
ReplyDeleteDoyin Okupe, go and jump into the lagoon because there is no amount of rancour that you are going to do that will save the serial failure called GEJ. Its time for a man with balls to take charge of the affairs of the nation.
ReplyDeleteSerial failures just like you Mr Okupe. This man is being paid a hefty wages to advise the "President" but I wonder if he has any pertinent or relevant advice to provide other than insult other politicians. In the UK, USA or other civilised countries Ministerial or Presidential advisers don't ever pass insultor abuse opposition politicians. Mr Okupe is definitely showing a lack of good breeding
ReplyDeleteDoyin, we are not talking about who has lost before but if you really think is bussiness as usual come 2015, then is either you are lying to yourself or you are far away from reality .
ReplyDeletebetween atiku b,,uhari ,,who will vote for the other becauese both of them are power drunk,,the are a shame to the north because they surpress any person who is intrested in politics ..we pray they should not drag the north backward again ,,the present governors are far and 100 percent better than them,,eg kano , kasina , niger ,etc.. governors ,......i cannot imagine an elderly state man who has rule this country jumping on a platform compiting with people who once vote them to power ,whether or civilian or militry their tme has pass
