There was pandemonium in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital yesterday following the arrest of two pastors, who reportedly teamed up with church members to beat up a fellow pastor at Nukkai area of Jalingo.
It was gathered that trouble started when a new pastor who was posted to take charge of the UMCN Nukkai, reported for duty on Sunday morning but met resistance as the old pastor and members were said not to be ready to welcome him.\
In the process, the old pastor and his members allegedly engaged the new pastor in a brawl and left him unconscious.
Our correspondent reports that the pastor was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, where he is currently receiving treatment.
When police from the Area Command, Jalingo, received report of the incident, they picked up two pastors of the church for interrogation.
But not comfortable with the development, members of the church reportedly mobilized themselves to the Jalingo Divisional Police Station, protesting the arrests of their pastors.
NE gathered that the worshippers were dispersed with tear gas, just as some of them were arrested.
Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Joseph Kwajji, confirmed the incident, adding that it was under investigation. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
