ASUU STRIKE: FUTO sacks all academic staff

For failure to return to classrooms, the Senate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has sacked all academic staff on its payroll with immediate effect.

The sack order was made known by the Public Relations Officers (PRO) of the institution, Mr Chike Ezenwa, while speaking with the a source in Owerri, through telephone.

According to him, the senate of the university had declared all the positions of academic staff in the institution, adding that they would be advertised starting from Monday, December 2.

The senate council, he explained, had already compiled the list of vacant positions in the school, adding that who were willing to resume would be adequately protected.

Meanwhile, the FUTO branch of ASUU has said any attempt to break their ranks would be strongly resisted by their members.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end o their meeting held on Monday, and signed by both the chairman and secretary, Dr Ikenna Nwachukwu and Dr F.M. Eke respectively.

The communiqué urged members to ignore the resumption notice by FUTO management, adding that the branch would not engage in any academic activities until the Federal Government commited itself to implementing the ASUU-FGN agreement.

  6. I am not in support of the strike. ASUU is not the only sector that is suffering in Nigeria, If all other sectors should go on strike, then the Nigeria national will collapse. I recommend that parents should protest against ASUU and Goverment should dissolve the ASUU union.

  10. @ wiseone and anon 7:44; I don't understand ur hatred for igbo people, what have they done to u? They have decided to mind their business, so u mind ur own business as well.
@ Anon 7:44; the igbos don't reason d way u do, in 1966 they carried out a revolution against corrupt politicians and their accomplice, it was miscontrued, it resulted to northern progrom which led to d civil war. @ aburi, Ojukwu proposed true federalism, it was rejected. After the civil war, all their money in the banks were seized leaving only 20pounds each for them, most of their properties were seized in all parts of the country till date. When there is any little upprising in any part of d country, they bear d brunt.
Jerry Rawlings did what the young military officers tried to do in 1966 in Ghana, today Ghana is reaping its dividends.
Proffesor Dora Akunyili did a marvelous work in the drug administration, but was rejected in kano.
Proffesor Charlse Soludo did a marvelous work in d banking sector, proposed for d removal of double zeros from our currency, it was rejected, today, Ghana has implemented that policy and its working for them.
Dr Okonjo Iwela, Alison Madueke et all tried through the president to remove fuel subsidy but it was rejected by sycophants like u. Are we not suffering from corruption as a result of fuel subsidy? Do u know how govt pays for subsidy which u and I never enjoy?
Now FUTO has sacked their lecturer and u are crying foul, Uni Ilorin did sack striking lecturers back then, were the senate of that institution Igbos? Are the striking lecturers really representing the interest of d common man? This is d question u should ask and to demonise a tribe.

  14. that is a good example, i think all universities should emulate what FUTO did, afterall is time to change these old professors that dosent know what to teach except extort money from students on handout, its time to recruit those with hot brains that can lecture. we have many masters andphd holders that studied in UK, US etc that dosent have job, its time for a change ASUU SHOULD BE DISSOLVED. They can not be stronger than the federal govt. ASUU STRIKE is sponsored by BOKO HARAM bcos the believe that WESTERN EDUCATION IS A SIN. They wil all be put to shame.
