According to the online media, SaharaReporters, the eight persons shot and killed by Nigerian security agents in Abuja today were in no way linked to the dreaded Boko Haram sect as claimed by the spokesperson of the Nigerian secret police, Marilyn Ogar.
The scene of the massacre was an uncompleted building at Bamanga Tukur Street in the Apo Legislative Quarters.
Seventeen of those who survived the pre-dawn onslaught by uniformed men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) spoke to us on their hospital beds in Abuja, all of them vehemently denying being members of Boko Haram.
One of the survivors said they are day labourers who work in the city to make ends meet, and later squat in uncompleted buildings by paying the guards attached to those buildings. This morning, he said, they were woken up by a surprising hail of bullets from the uniformed soldiers.
Providing some background, he disclosed that an emissary of an army general had given them a five-day quit notice but that today’s slaughter was carried out before they could move from the building.
Reporters saw sleeping mats and cooking utensils belonging to the squatters as well as blood splattered on the walls of the building from the unusual attack on innocent civilians by the Nigerian military claiming to be fighting Boko Haram.
Nigerian security agents insist that they killed the civilians after they first came under attack while trying to dig out weapons hidden underground by the insurgents, but one of the injured squatters told SaharaReporters categorically that the soldiers fled the scene after finding out they had killed innocent civilians.
“It was after the attack that some policemen and the SSS came to the scene and even tried to help those of us that survived to get to hospital,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

DeleteI'm a northern christain in warri, bt called boko haram cos I speak hausa. I now know dt at anytime I can b attacked under d guise of BH. It has become a norm to tag every hausa speaking person, BH. Do dy know dt ds BH consists mainly of Chadians n Kanuris?
ReplyDeleteThis is quite sad. The securty agents shd be cautioned. They shdnt take laws into their hands. For those soldiers who acted in this manner, I recommend that they & the General who has the house shd be dismissed to serve as a deterant to others.

Clearly, the northerners have allowed a complete integration of the foreigners into their system, because of the religious believes you both share, while together with these foreigners, you waged war against the yorubas and d igbos in ur system, labelling them 'kafiris' (infidels). You enjoyed the association while you had a common 'enemy'. Today the story is different, and you're crying foul play. The monster you built needs more blood to feed on. Nobody will fight this battle for you (northerners), you have to do it yourself. You know these foreigners, otherwise the JTF will continue to kill any BH looking person. ReplyDeleteAnon @9:47am U're right with the first point U made. Northerners accommodate a muslim from MALI, NIGER, CHAD, SUDAN even from ISLAMABAD(Parkistan) than a christian from the NORTH. However, that does not call for KILLING innocent NORTHERNS as in this cause. Members of BH can even use this to mobilise more sympathisers from other TRIBES in the NORTH. Imagine the scale of VIOLENCE if this struggle becomes a fight blw the military and NORTHERN youths. Brother, e go dey BLOODY O! So our military personnel should learn to investigate properly before unleashing their fire power. If AMERICANS can disguise as ARABS to infiltrate TERROR groups in our countries, I do not understand why our beloved military can not become a MAI RUWA, MAI RAKE, MAI KWAKWA, MAI YANKA, MAI TABA, MAI BAROW, even MAI EL-MATOSKY to slowly gain access into that building before SHOTTING at INNOCENT people trying to keep BODY and SOUL in one PIECE.
