‘My Oga at the Top’: Shem removed as NSCDC Lagos Commandant, replaced by Adesuyi

Mr Shem
After weeks of speculations and rumours, The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has finally replaced Mr. Obafaiye Shem, the man who postulated the “my oga at the top” mantra, as commandant of Lagos State Command. He was replaced by Mr. Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command.

The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin, who was in Lagos weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists.

However, he did not give reasons for Obafaye’s removal but sources hinted that it may not be unconnected with his recent interview on Channels Television live programme.

Before now, authorities of NSCDC have denied taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview. Their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.

Shem’s ordeal started when he appeared on Channels Television morning programme ‘Sunrise’ and when asked the NSCDC website he said:

“Hmmm, the website is, excuse me, my Oga at the top knows the website”. He again, cleared his throat and said: “My Oga at the top is working on the website and I don’t have them”.

When the presenters insisted that he give a functioning website address of the para-military outfit, he dropped the bombshell: “ww.nscdc, that’s all”.

Immediately, the interview went viral and has become so popular to the extent that t-shirts with “my oga at the top” insignia has been produced and selling like hot cake across the country, even as some DJs and musicians have done what they called a remix of the phrase.

  4. I think the measure taken was drastic. Demote him yes but not sack him. I don't agree with this at all. That means Patience Jonathan should be sacked as well as well as all ministers

  7. This' really bad and I don't bide the idea, Jonathern himself ought to have been sacked for a long time especially when he presented a broadcast he never went through before the life broadcast on NTA sometimes ago. Let learn to forgive and forget and even the Jounalists that conducted the interview should go bad to school and perhaps should be sacked for unethical conduct, they were very unprofessional on that day.

    Tunde Kano.

  8. Shem knows exactly what he was doing, trying to protect his boss. He knows his organization's official website address but because of the scam attached, that's why he played that role.Unknownily to him, his phrase my Oga at the top will be his greatest nightmare and scorn of the social media

  9. Why should the man be removed? Was knowing the website his primary responsibility or Security? If he is good at his work, what has knowing website address got to do with security? How many of our Governors, Senators and ministers can recite the anthem? How many can rightly mention the names of all their local governments? How many can tell us how many states are there in Nigeria and their Capitals? Over to you.

    1. Since he did not know the web site, how was he gathering internal and external security information? This is a security outfit where information is key & d man had no idea how to get to d source! Its not his limited knowledge that is the problem but d fact that we entrust so much in the hands of people who are just not competent.

  12. Did he fail in executing his duties? Just bcos he couldnt provide his office website, everybody is shouting crucify him. How many of our so call Oga at the top or below knows the meaning of internet, not to talk of website. How many of our so call leaders have been redeployed or removed bcos of any misdid. Anyone who has not made any mistake before should throw the first stone.

  14. Haba that is not cool @ all. They shdnt have fired him, the guy didn't do anything wrong. So he didn't know his organization website that's not grounds for firing. This is just wrong.

  15. Schem, sorry for that beside people that he called oga at the top can even do more dan that bcos a lot of them can not even address the public witout doing rehearsal

  16. Sincerely, Shem did what was right in order to prevent the scam involved in the NSCDC recruitment. Its very wrong to sack him. I believed he knows the website address of his organization. If Shem was sacked, then ***** should be sacked too.

  19. However unjustifiable the Ogas at the top actions may be,it only reveals the level of decadence in our ministries.Ignorance is really not an excuse in the modern world and that is why every individual must endeavor to be furnished with adequate info about his or her organization. There should be orientation, trainings and regular appraisals to show competence in govt insitutions, both for the Ogas at the top and their surbodinates.

  20. People should stop calling this a mistake. what you dont know, You dont know!,,,It is neva a mistake that you dont know it...In his own case, him no sabi em, and him no know say him no sabi em. infact he was claiming as if he knew one, until he dropped d bombeshell.

  21. Shem has learnt a lesson of his life. His ogas at the top have all failed. He was being conscious but it earned him a sack. Those that sacked him are very unfair, afterall they (including Shem) know how they got the jobs. Most of them cannot do without assistants. For the journalists, they acted like agents of satan sent against Shem and i'm sure they are happy to have accomplished their mission. They really need to go back to school after praying for forgiveness from God and making peace with Shem.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For me the journalists are idiots. They asked very stupid question and recieved adequate answer.IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE, YOU DONT ASK, WHAT IS YOUR WEB SITE? like the TV journalist did . but YOU RATHER ASK WHAT IS YOUR WEBSITE ADDRESS?

  23. He is just a victim of circumstances, this man was able to put a good fight agaist vandals in Lagos, yet without been given any recognition, But oga at d top now see nothing good in him again, only to be removed for their accomplish in crime

  24. To all those who a bitter or pushin blame on this whole thingy, da headlines says "Shem removed as lagos NSCDC commandant" not sacked. If swapin his position or given him a new office will save da credibility of da oFfice den y not? Let's jst hp his replacement is credible for da job "dats all".. 1Da man

  25. You are a miscreant. The man na your papa abi? Journalist are free to ask questions, if u are too dumb to answer correctly, too bad for u and ur papa. This is 21st century. Even a trained dog called Cairo was taken along on Osama bin Laden's mission fitted with cameras. Get your brain polished and stop putting the blame on the presenters. Website address ko, website avenue ni. Olodo somebody.

  26. pls they all know what they are doing. Is Shem a baby that he will not know their own website? how has he been getting information from other source in his ministry? Abeg o!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't think he was sacked rather he was redeployed to Oyo State as the Commandant. However apart from the Website saga, Mr. Shem lacks the confident needed from Him as the State Commandant of NSCDC Lagos State. The truth of the matter is that most Top official of NSCDC were person hat joined the organisation as a volunteer and when the federal government of Nigeria did integrated them as part of the Ministry of Interior the likes of Mr. Shem was ask of assume great responsibility. If one should Interview most of the Top Officials of NSCDC you will get the same result. This one was for the NSCDC Lagos, go to the North and you will get a bomb shell of incompetence from top officials. May God Help Nigeria. On the part of the Media team that interviewed him, I think they are professional because since its a live interview and Mr. Shem was exposing his incompetence, the media being the mouth piece of the common man is not expected to cover up for Him since people are watch so they play along. Meanwhile the interview was schedule, hence Mr. Shem was not taken unaware.
