How Davido stole hit single 'Gobe' from an upcoming act

'I bought it, i didn't steal it' i, sure Davido would have insisted, but our findings yesterday revealed how Davido paid N350,000 to an upcoming artiste, Password for the "Gobe" Song

Since Davido’s single track, Gobe, hit the airwaves, it has topped the music charts. However, there had been speculations that Davido bought the song from a new artiste, Password, others insisted that he stole it out rightly.

It was said that Password had earlier released the same song in 2011 before he sold it to Davido in 2013.

NE learnt that Davido actually bought the song for N350,000. It was also gathered that OBO as he is popularly referred to did not know the song had been released before.

The song "Gobe" was released in 2011, with the same lyrics by upcoming act, Password, but the song was not popular.

The Head of Management of HKN, Davido’s record label, Kamal Ajiboye, told NE that Password approached them with the song and said he was sure Davido could do something good with it. When Davido heard the song, he modified it to suit his style.

He stressed that they never knew that the song had been released before.

Kamal said, “Password is a friend to our producer, Shizze. He told Shizze he had a song and Shizze asked him to bring it. Shizze told Davido to listen to the song and if he liked it, he could turn the song around.

“When Davido heard the song, he liked it. He removed something and added his own stuff to it. The guy never said the song had been released. If he did, we wouldn’t have used the song. Maybe because the song did not do well, that was why he brought it to us.

“We paid him N350,000 for the song. The beat was done by us; the job Davido did to the song was even more that what he did to the song.”

  1. This is a biased report. Whatever has been paid for after agreement from two parties cannot be referred to as stolen. You will soon loose your credibility if you continue like this.
