Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Blocked For Several Hours As Jonathan Attends RCCG Convention

Traffic on Major Lagos roads leading to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was at a stand-still for several hours yesterday as Thousands of Motorists groaned for hours in traffic snarl on the Lagos roads following the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) convention.

While passengers were stranded at different Bus Stop for several hours, as security officers attached to the President closed the roads from Marina axis of the state on the Lagos Island to Lagos- Ibadan expressway.

Speaking a reporter, a motorist, lamented,” I closed from work early today but to my surprise, I was told that I cannot make use of the road now because the President I elected into office want to pass. This is appalling.”

Adekoya explained “I have been this traffic for hours and due to this, I am hungry here now because I did not eat at work hoping to get home early and eat.”

The right side of the road was closed completely to resist the movement of motorist and commuters for the president to have easy passage thereby causing the traffic gridlock on the roads.

Some of the roads visited by reporters were: Lagos Island through Lagos Ibadan Expressway to Lateef Jakande Road Nurudeen Olowopopo, Amara Olu and Ogunnusi roads, among others.
Visit to these roads, further revealed that there was long queue of vehicles which ran into adjoining streets and highways.

As this traffic snarl increases, commuters who could not bear the stress of waiting at the Bus Stops for vehicle resorted to an endless trekking because the vehicles were trapped in a bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Mr. Simeon Anthony, a commuter, said “I had no option than to trek because I cannot say when the traffic would subside. And for me, I cannot wait at the Bus Stop for a commercial bus that I do not know when it would arrive.”

  8. It seems those responsible for the control and flow of traffic on Lagos love chaotic situations. Most of the so-called Traffic Control Officials are bunch of idiots, always confused, and are very much responsible for the inability of free-flow traffics on Lagos road. On the day in question, commuters were made to understand that the President was in Lagos (Ikoyi area) for a meeting. The next we heard he was heading to RCCG Holy Ghost Night. However, I have never heard or seen anybody come forward or confirmed that they saw the President's Entourage/Convoy on the street of Lagos at any point in time, on this particular day. I won't be surprised if parts of the roads in Lagos were clogged up due some so-called Lagos State Government Officials and the Big Shots (Money People) heading out of the Lagos Island for the Holy Ghost Night. It is the duty of the Lagos State Government to have a proper plan/strategy in place for the free-flow of traffic on
any situation of mass movement of pilgrimage for conventions, etc.
Stop blaming the President of Nigeria for the inadequacy of the Lagos State Traffic Control System. Lagos State Government should work effectively on the logistic of a better traffic control on the roads of Lagos at any point in time.
